What does Cover do? What is Ward(1)?

Not sure about cover, but I believe you can get the details for Ward from the Wrath card. Dont have it handy, but I think its something like change the lowest strike to magic defense.

I would expect that cover could be something similar like change the lowest strike to a block?

Yeah, they removed the cover rule, but not the cover in the terrain description.
