What do you need?

Hi y'all,

I've seen a lot of the warmachine minis and I do like them - and its got me wondering . . . what do you need to play?

I have been looking for a rule book but not found what I would consider one (something that says Rules!).

I have looked on the PP website but still confused .

I went through the forum and didn't get the answer I was looking for.

Can anyone enlighten me.

You get (or used to get ) at Quick start guide in the boxed sets of Warmachine Starters.
However:
http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/books
Is the full rules (Warmachine Prime II) Plus army books (Like GW Codexes but better)

Aha Quick start rules downloadable here:

Thanks for that,

Not 2 minutes after I posted this I found them. I'll be adding it to my cart when the wife lets me.

Brand-spanking new battleboxes are supposed to be out in September, and will likely include Quick Start rules, since the old ones did, too.

As for rules, you want Warmachine: Prime Mk II or Hordes: Primal Mk II. Those are the core rule books, and include all the rules for the game and basic army entries for each major faction (Cygnar, Cryx, Khador, Menoth in Prime; Trollbloods, Circle, Skorne, and Legion in Primal).

They have released new Mk II books (second edition) for all the Warmachine factions, and are in the process of putting out the Hordes factions. The two games are compatible, and you can play Hordes vs. Warmachine very easily--there are only a couple of minor differences in how warjacks/warcasters work compared to warbeasts/warlocks.

What models caught your eye?

I really like the The Protectorate of Menoth minis and Cygnar. Its the colours of Menoth that draw me to them. However I think the minis from Cygnar are nicer - but I think the colour scheme could be a little better (on the warjacks that is).

I think I'll have to invest in the rules.

I've just had a look at Hordes and I might invest in that rule book also.

What do you collect? Cryx? They do look dark and tasty I must say.

It is a really solid rules system, to be honest. And a hell of a lot of fun to play, imagining these hulking things smashing around and picking stuff up and throwing it (yes, there are actually rules for two-hand-throwing other models *at* other models :) ).

My main faction is, indeed, Cryx, but I have a rapidly growing Legion of Everblight army, as well as a decent sized Khador and Trollbloods army.

In addition to a really good rule system, the fiction and setting are just simply fantastic. Extremely well written, and very engaging. Heck, I'm buying all the new faction books, even for those I don't play, just to get all the fiction (well, and having stats for everyone isn't bad, either, but hardly necessary). :)
