Hi guys i just want some advice as to what digital camera to buy for photographing my minis.
Im looking for something that will produce decent results but not be too expensive. I know nothing about cameras so i cant just read some description of a camera the says \"5 megapixels\" or something as i dont know how that would turn out. I dont want some fancy up its own ass look it can detect the smiles of your space marines sorta thing, just something simple.

Well, I\'m pretty new to dogital photography myself but I have spent some time looking at cameras and asking advice. You want a camera that has a good macro setting. Canon powershot and G cameras as well as Nikon and I\'ve heard Ricoh, have excellent macro. The pixel thing just means what size pics you can produce really so take no notice of the \"pixel race\".

Canon G9 is spiffing for a compact....

Not the cheapest, but well worth saving the extra. 250 quid in the UK I believe.

My girlfriend recently bought a Panasonic DMC-TZ5 and it is quite good. It has a great range of features that work well for minis and its 8 megapixels.

I actually bought my own camera recently too. I bought a Sony A300 digital SLR. It can take one heck of a picture. If you have the money to spend I would recommend it but if you are just using it for photographing minis it is a bit of an over kill.

I\'m still a bit clueless about cameras but I\'ve seen good quality pictures on another site taken with a mobile phone camera.

I have a sony dsc s730, its really good at taking pictures of minis and for about £70-80 well worth the cash!

7.2 megapixle
2.4 inch screen
2.5cm macro focus

The guy in the shop who reccomended it to me used to take pics of rings for a living, so he knew his stuff. If you go to a good camera shop, they will show you how to use the macro settings effectivly and get the right light settings etc..

The only downside is it runs on AA batteries, but with a charger this doesnt matter.

Hi Yack, sorry I can\'t make any recommendations as I don\'t own a camera yet.

I wanted to ask if any of you guys know anything about the Sony Cyber Shot cameras. I\'ve heard good things about them. And for miniature painting what kinda macro capability will you need?

I read a very good review on the Canon G9. It looks like a good camera but there were all kinds of negative things touched on in the review. Here\'s the link if you\'re interested. http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/canon/powershot_g9-review/

Also, do you need a remote control to take steady shots of miniatures?

Sorry to hijack your thread Yack!

The reviewer is a burk. I took his opinion with a pinch of salt when he started on a rant about wanting his cameras to operate on AA batteries....

The only real issue it has is noise at higher ISO. Which is a problem for almost all cameras with smaller sensors. I\'d mug my granny for one. :)

I\'ve got A powershot G9 and its an awesome camera, the detail you get on it is immense. In fact, I have it in my drawer at work now, I\'ll take a couple of automatic shots with it now to show you the kind of quality you get.

Unfortunately, because I needed to upload them, theyve been reduced in size.... The are 4000 x 3000 pixels when they come off the camera.
