Warboss painting WIP

Hey guys, here\'s a WIP of the warboss for my Ork Freek army. It\'s just basically Ghazhkull, and he\'s on a massive base, which I am thinking might just be all my problem. But I\'m not happy with the base colours either. Any ideas on how I can make it work out a bit better?

You can still save the base if you can paint it well. With the colors, I would reccomend defining the corners and edges of the metal so it doesn\'t look so flat in some places. But the grime is really cool though.

Give the base an overall wash of either Citadel Scorched brown or Vallejo German Camo Brown. Then add Black to the wash and wash in the deepest recesses.

Rehighlight with your original base colour and add a little Bleached Bone or VMC Ivory to the base colour for next level highlights.
I\'d also suggest making the metal pieces within the base differing Metals rather than all the same colour.

Da boss is looking great, and I agree with you , tis the base that lets this down.

I really like the scrap metals on it, the rust and oxidation is done really well. The big problem in my humble and honest opinion is that it is the same colour as the rock, and I have never, ever in all my 27 years here seen rock and metal the same colour, and even if they were your base needs more contrast, so re-do the rocks a grey colour or at least a very darker brown!

Thanks for the ideas and tips guys, I\'m pretty happy with it now. I was just being lazy I think trying to get it done quicker.

Here is the updated base:
