walking dead WIP

Got the zombicide parcel last Friday (yay, customs), played a couple of games over the weekend, and decided it was time to get back into fig painting!

Been on break from painting for the last 10 years or so; tried to get back into it about 3 years back, but didn't last long.
Almost half my paints were dried up beyond recovery - citadel 'bolter shell' pots, mostly - my brush hand shakes like a willow tree in a thunderstorm, and I'd forgotten how bad ink washes taste. (Have I got enough excuses in yet as to why these are so poor yet?) Oh yes, they're only tabletop quality...

Still, you gotta start again somewhere, right? And at least I know about flow improver this time. Spent about 6 hours on these so far, just need a last few tidies and I need to figure out how I'm going to base them.

First batch; the 'blue' group.

Very short of flesh tones/creams until my foundry order turns up, so these are tallarn flesh plus some very dried up elf flesh mixed around with some grey highlights, and brown/green washes.
Hopefully will be able to come up with a better way to get the same 'freshly dead' effect but with better facial hilights - at which point, I may come back to this first batch.

Oh. nearly forgot my assistants.

Thoughts and suggestions gratefully received, I really am very rusty. (Yes, I know I need to clean the mold lines better...) I'm dumping higher-res photos as I go (so you can see my shame...) over here.

For all the reasons given, I expected them to look like something I might have painted. ;) They are looking great!
Perhaps I need to get younger assistants, mine just curl up next to me.

You're off to a nice start. Considering how many zombies are in that box, by the time you're done you'll be a pro.

Don't forget to add some blood and gore on your zombies, they've been busy feasting on brains (assuming you don't win every game). Some blood around their mouths and hands and then some dripped onto their clothes would add to the look. For random splotches, try taking a small piece of foam (the kind that usually comes with minis, just tear off a piece), dab it in some red paint, and then dab it on your figure. That could work real well on those fatties. Of course you might want the extra control of a brush when you're doing the face and hands. Just a suggestion!

Had a look at the hi res versions ... still great gaming piece quality painting. When I do my miniatures painting I have to remember that without many hundreds of hours of practice, I should not be comparing harshly with the professional painting for competition standard. If I get a 5 on CMON voting I'm happy.

They look good.

I like how you painted identical miniatures so that they're outfits look completely different.
