VPs in Fire and Blood

Is it meant to have the "victory by combat" additional points disabled for this game type? I don't see anywhere that states this (and in fact I see in the rulebook it says "In addition to any methods listed in the game mode...")
But that seems super duper overkill. Since if a marked unit kills a marked unit, that's FOUR victory points even if there's no token put on it by commanders...
1 point for friendly marked killing a unit, 2 points for enemy marked unit being destroyed, and 1 point from victory by combat..
In a game that only goes to 10 points, it seems WAY too easy to generate lots of VPs in this scenario.
Disabling the VPs from Victory through Combat makes this game mode MUCH more interesting, as now only marked and tokened units give up points, unless a friendly marked unit does the killing. Making which units are marked and where they go in combat a far more interesting tactical decision by the players.
Thoughts? Alternatives?

I'm not so sure the game mode isn't designed with this in mind. After all, it has been this way through multiple versions of the game without being changed (and I'm sure the VP velocity has been brought up more than a few times.) It means there's a lot of strategy at the start of the game with which units you're marking, plus tactics during the game in how you use and position your marked units. It is the push and pull of whether you play or protect your marked toys that is at the crux of this mode.
