VMC Gold Brown

Hey, when I joined here, I learned that VMC is a good brand, and decided to buy some.

If I had enough of them, I would use them instead of Citadel...

But ever since I got them, I noticed that my Goldbrown would seperate in the bottle, leaving the colour pigment at the bottom, and a watery green at the top. I could sit here shaking it for 10 mins solid, and it would still seperate. Does this happen to many other bottles of this colour, or does this batch not have enough emulsifier in?

Also, is there any way I can fix it? I really wouldn\'t want this happening on the model..

Thanks.

Some paints in the VMC line behave like that but enough shaking usually fixes that. I have the gold brown and it works quite well. Try to pour the paint into an empty Citadel pot or similar and stir it manually with a stick.

Putting in some ball bearings, or something similar, really helps to mix the paints better when you shake them too.

argh i hate/love this color.

15 mins arm breaking work and then you have to be carefull the end isn\'t clogged. (it\'s always clogged :( )but it is a realy nice color.

if i found something close i\'d drop it in a heartbeat.

Actually, I find that GW paints work quite well, but I use a mix of enamels (no name), VMC, GW, and other no names. At least for me, I use VMC mainly for base-coating and mixing to add more \'flavour\' to colours.

It\'s one of the things that VMC is \'Famous\' for.
The Ochre based colours are very pigment heavy and do require a great deal of shaking to ensure that the Pigment and medium are completed mixed.
Someone on here once recommended that once you put a drop of paint out of the Vallejo bottle you stand it upright and tap it on the work surface to ensure that the liquid falls back down the bottle. I\'ve tried that and it works sometimes.
But I\'ve found that keeping a large straightend out paperclip handy on my painting \"Mess\" will allow me to clear blocked nozzles in a matter of seconds.

With all paints you find what works for you. Although there are some drawbacks, such as having to shake the blazes out of some Vallejo\'s I find their colour range to be superior to GW\'s and allows me greater flexibility to work, so I\'m more than happy to use them.

Gunna put it in the tumble dryer - to see if that helps.

Just kidding, I am going to continue shaking, and stir with a paper clip like Mike suggested. I would also put an adgitator in there too, but they seem quite hard to open, and I don\'t fancy spilling paint on my carpet again...

Thanks for your help guys!

If you remove the nozzle, you\'ll be able to drop a bearing in easily.

Make sure you super glue the nozzle when you put it back on. It will come flying off and make a right old mess when you shake the pot otherwise.

You don\'t shake the pot with the cap off, do you? :]

Doh!

Yep, that\'s what I meant. I\'ve had a few older pots of VMC pull that stunt when squeezed.

SPLURGE! All over the coffee table....

I would recommed to anyone having trouble with pesky VMC that are heavily seperated is to use the Jigsaw method of shaking if possible.
Jigsaw Shaker
I do this with mine but I don\'t have such an elaborate setup. I just duck tape a bottle to the blade and CAREFULLY shake away.

:( BALL BEARING ADGITATOR :(

Just thought I\'d mention, as I haven\'t noticed anyone else say :

I WOULDN\'T use a METAL ball bearing as an adgitator, just in case of oxidation :/
(And possible ruining of the paint!)

I\'d rather use something like a plastic BB pellet or an old Lego head or something.

Way ahead of ya! I used one of my little sister\'s plastic jewelry beads. I asked her for it of course, I\'d never steal...

The seperation is still happening, but it\'s not so fast now, I suppose if I build a super paint shaper majigy, I\'d be helping every one... lol
