vintage minis

Course, the one model I\'m still looking for is a Grenadier piece, seemingly about the only one they don\'t have. It\'s the \'Praying Paladin\' (just my name for it) from one of the Fighting Men blisters in the Fantasy Warriors line...

I just ordered the Savages from the Future Warriors line from EM-4 (who picked up the license). I love this line of figures.

I\'ll keep my eyes open for this figure, I do come in contact with some old lead quite a bit, as well as having friends with huge old miniature collections who like to pay me in lead for my painting services.

Very cool, Rigger. Thanks. :)

Any other Future Warriors you\'re looking for? I can check the local store for them this week...

Well, I just ordered one of each available from EM-4, but can you really have too many road warrior figures? I\'ve gotten into playing with green stuff and doing conversions, and shoulder pads are mad easy :)

Lemme know what they have, I love them.
The generic aliens like soldiers are cool too.

The Citadel \"Chicken\" Dragon..

There was a guy on the Collecting Citadel Miniatures Yahoo! Group a while back who found this in pieces at a car-boot sale for £20.. Dream scenario huh? Lucky guy made a fortune on eBay - I think it sold in excess of £200, and this was not even six months ago.

Who knows what other wonders are being left to rot in someones attic? :(

Silverandblackattack - the Ral Partha Slave Master and slaves is available from Iron Winds Metals - runs about $7.25 US plus shipping. They actually have most of the old Ral Partha stuff available at fairly reasonable prices.

I almost feel guilty....(snigger)

I went to a car boot sale once and amongst the normal dross was a few GW minis, painted appallingly but I had a look. There was a Centurius, a load of old Dark Knight termies and about 50 other classics from the Rogue Trader era, as I was looking at them the middle aged lady in charge of the stall chatted to me and asked if I liked fishing. I said I really enjoyed fishing and, at this point she said, \"well for a tenner ($16) you can take all those toy soldiers and this fishing stuff\". I was tempted to try and knock her down, but a relatively decent sense of humanity stopped me. Fishing gear included 2 Abu reels and a classic spinning rod amongst a ton of other useful gear.

Turns out, all this stuff belonged to her son, who had sodded of to University. Mum had repeatedly asked him to clear his room and recieved the usual response from an (absent) teenage son and so she had decided to do it herself.

Lesson: never trust your mum with your greatest treasures, \'cos she might flog them to me for a tennerlollollollollol

i think im one of the unluckiest people around i never find great bargains, ive never won the lottery despite once buying 5 lines(what are the chances urm i dont actually want a statistical response to that question) i cant remember who said it but \"but if there was a competition for losers i would come second\" this i can seriously relate to, boo hoo for me:(

contact Tom Dye at Minifigs USA - he has some old lines of Fantasy and I believe he will cast them on demand if he has the molds (and he has a ton).

This is as close a link as I can provide: http://www.minifigs.com/

AS for price - I can\'t recall paying more than 10 bucks for a single figure though I\'d pay $25 for the Foundry Holmes and Watson Limited Ed models . .anyone? anyone?

not the same item

Thanks Steelcult, but the slave auction was a large boxed set. It usually runs over 100 dollars. I know about ironwind metals and will be ordering in the near future after I finish some of the ones I\'m working on now. About Ebay, don\'t you sometimes think that Bill Gates snipes people just because he enjoys tormenting us peasants?lol

Old GW stuff is hugely collectable (I\'m talking about pre-1990 here!). There\'s loads of stuff from the mid to late 80\'s that I\'d love to get hold of. Every now and again I have a bit of a splurge on Ebay and go through that peculiar emotion that\'s a combination of elation (at winning a great auction) and guilt (at spending more money that could have gone on something far more useful).

The most I\'ve spent on an auction was £16 (not including P&P) on a set of 4 Rogue Trader period space marines. One was plastic so that didn\'t really interest me, but the other three were heavy weapons marines, one of which came with a heavy plasma gun. GW archives had all the old heavy weapons available except the heavy plasma gun, so I basically paid £16 for a gun! The three marines were appreciated as well mind.

If anyone\'s looking to make a mint, check the attic for those oldies. Any of the large dragons get high prices, as do any special boxed sets (anything with box intact is going to inmprove the price as well!). Remember the dwarf juggernaut? Terrible model but worth a lot these days (wish I hadn\'t tried to convert mine all those yars ago!). If you\'re talking 40K, old imperial guard always sell well. Anyone with plastic arms still on the sprues can expect a lot of attention from buyers! The old plastic boxed sets (unopened) sell for about £40. Probably just because of the supply of arms and guns!

Old stuff, you gotta love it!

The old Ral Partha \'3 stooges troll\' just went for £10 on UK eBay... I tried for it but my dial up connection decided to stall just as I was placing my bid...

The most I\'ve paid is around AU$60 for the old Marauder giant. I\'d wanted the mini for 10+ years though so I would\'ve paid a lot more.

About 5 years ago (during the time I was taking a break from the hobby) I was in a Cash Converters store (a large secondhand goods franchise) looking for old Amiga software when I found a large plastic box containing the forgotten realms heroes boxset, the dragonlace heroes and villains boxsets, the draconians boxset plus maybe 5 kilos of loose lead and all for AU$25 (about US$17). I turned to my girlfriend and said \"heh, I used to be interested in that stuff...\" and then proceeded to head off looking for the software... Needless to say, in retrospect I\'m just a little annoyed with myself.

most expensive?

The most expensive vintage model I can think of is the severely limited model:

\'The Citadel Giant\'. There are some images available on \'stuff of legends\'. It is a very old and extremely large giant (metal!) which weighs twice as much as the old marauder giant. I heard it does pop up now and then and when it does it rarely sells for under the 500 dollars and easily makes double that....

Then again, it is a fantastic model....

We are not worthy (well I\'m not anyway)

Welcome to the Forums Arjay!!!:bouncy:

That \'newbie\' tag looks a tad out of place however, attached to one of the most talented and respected painters around here.

Perhaps if gobshites like me spent more time painting and less time chatting we\'d be better painters though...just a thoughtlol

the minis im looking for at the moment which i havent come across yet is the original gw terminators(i dont think they were called terminators), ugly beasts with really rounded features, ive got this idea for a 40 k traitor marine army using all oop minis the older the better, idont actually play 40k but i think it would look great(kinda representing the marine chapter dissappearing in the warp millenia ago)

I was sure I\'d posted here once before...

Thanks for the welcome finn17. People keep telling me to stop wasting time painting toys and dedicate more to my real job so it\'s debatable as to whether the time I spend on painting is a good thing.

I\'d been after these guys for years after mine were confiscated.

http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~tpope/sol/grenadier/images/1414.jpg

I offered to paint a miniature in exchange for them... that was my mistake, I should have offered cash...
I\'d seen them once on eBay but the guy refused to send them anywhere other than Nth. America...:~(
