just recently ive been buying some old 80s vintage gw minis, thrudd the barbarian(the version that sturmhalos got a pic posted of,love the skintones by the way), undead plaguecart, kaleb daark mounted and on foot, sanity claws and death jester(not eldar the actual jester), now the most ive paid is £20.00 GBP for kaleb mounted, what i was wondering is whats the most money anyones seen a non painted or partially painted vintage mini sell for on e bay and what in your opinions is the rarest mini

Hmm the hardest mini to find that I\'ve been looking for is the Three Headed Troll/Ettin that Ral Partha put out years ago - found it to paint, but not to own just yet.

Old Partha Cleric

I would love to have another of these fellas:

Can\'t find one anywhere... It is a Ral Partha Import from \'86 apparently. At least that is what the bottom seems to say :D Could be \'85....

I really need time to think about this, but I guarantee this is going to be a red-hot-topic! Thanks for posting this challenging question/observation. I will respond tomorrow - it is 2.34 am at the moment. Begs for mercy/sleep.:bouncy:

Expensive non-painted minis

There\'s a couple... one was $125 or thereabouts for a rare Battletech mini (one of the ones that looked like a Robotech mini, so they were discontinued). Some of the Dragonlance stuff goes for a lot too, the one I want, but can\'t afford is Takhisis, the 5-headed dragon. That one goes for anywhere around $120-$200. I should have picked up one when they were only $60 :( Hmm the Grenadier War Giant also goes for a lot when it shows up (possibly more than $200), but that one only shows up a couple times a year I think, so I don\'t recall what the last one went for. That\'s all I can think of at the moment...

weird places for minis

This might sound weird, but ask around comic book shops and the like because sometimes they have minis lying around that they are itching to get rid of (back when D&D was pretty popular etc)

I just picked up a bunch of models from the Grenadier \"Nightmares\" line of figures for about $4 a blister (3 figures inside) at a comic book shop today.

Way over the top....

For months and months I had scoured the web for the Grenadier War Mammoth (not the undead one).

It became my \'holy grail\'. Finally it appeared on E-bay, and for a while I was the top bidder. I had to bow out when it topped 100, but I kid you not, the thing sold for well over 200 dollars. (240 if I remember correctly)

Since then, I \'found\' that Nemo minatures had bought the molds and was re-releasing the set.

I found a distributor in Europe and it took four months for me to actually get it (they must have sent it via row boat!!)

I had heard that they were also going to re-release the Goblin War Giant (which is my new holy grail).

I doubt that these are the rarest, just the most expensive (unpainted)I have ever come across.

I search for the War Mammoth on E-bay every so often, and I have only seen it one other time.(and then it sold for over 125!)

Well, now that I\'ve had a chance to think about it, my holy - of - holiest grails is not really a mini but some models from my youth. Way back in the 70\'s when me. Finn, dirt, and God were young, Airfix put out a series of snap together models dealing with prehistoric animals - dinosaurs and such. As part of it they put out a cave, cave bear, sabre tooth tiger, tar pit, Cro Magnon Man and Woman, and Neaderthal Man. While Polar Lights has re-released some of the dinos, they have not re-released the mamals. These are what I want.

I have a local store that claims to have the world\'s largest stock of Grenadier models. Many many boxes of blisters from the Nightmares, Future Warriors, Fantasy Warriors and a couple of other lines. They also have some of the museum edition pieces like the Female Rogue, etc...

Course, the one model I\'m still looking for is a Grenadier piece, seemingly about the only one they don\'t have. It\'s the \'Praying Paladin\' (just my name for it) from one of the Fighting Men blisters in the Fantasy Warriors line...

The most I have paid for a miniature was about £80 for Takhisis on Ebay and half of that cost was shipping from the US. The one thing that I\'d really like to get hold of is the Golden Dragon of Chaos- a limited edition RP piece. My local store had one in but I was really broke at the time and most of the ones on ebay go for quite a lot of money.

Other than that I\'d quite like to get a great spined dragon from GW- again thats about £50 mail order and I\'m not sure if he\'s worth that really.

Oh and theres also the Chicken dragon from GW- the biggest one they ever made- but I\'ve never seen that one come up for sale.

Regards

Kat

Guess I must be old as dirt too because I had those models. I remember the sabre tooth and the Neanderthal anyway.
Wow. Haven\'t thougth about those in nearly 30 years.

Would the one you\'re looking for be the center of this picture?
mystery mini set
If so, it\'s from the boxed set called \"specialists\" #2006
They show up on ebay with some frequency but not necessarily with the right name.
I have him (and both the original \"advanced Dungeons and Dragons\" box and the later \"Dragon Lords\" box) but he was painted years ago and looks awful. Still, I\'m unsure if I\'d part with him since that would leave the set with a hole.

Ouch!

I think the most I have ever paid in terms of cash-to-lead ratio was $86 recently for a Logren figure from Rackham on eBay.
I really wanted this figure but, cough!..choke...!! splurt...!!:bouncy:

lead to resin ratio...

I didn\'t mention the most I have ever spent on a mini., since I didn\'t think it qualified as \"vintage\"

As I have a \"soft spot\" for War Mammoths when the Forgeworld Chaos War Mammoth came out, I bit the bullet and ordered one.

At least it is big enough to where the price to size ratio makes it more justifiable (at least in my little head!!)

I kick myself now, realizing that I could have gotten a decent digital camera for that price. BUT, it is SOOOOOO cool!:D:D

Hmmm. That link is directing me to the CMON index and giving me a different pic each time. ???

So I go hunt and find the mystery mini pic. No, that\'s not the guy I\'m looking for (I already have that one). :)

The guy I\'m looking for is the one on the right end:

http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~tpope/sol/grenadier/images/1418.jpg

I have the original AD&D box too...the only one I\'ve painted is the Ochre Jelly (which I painted as a green slime)...maybe I\'ll post him and see how badly he gets hammered...hehe...

I want them all

I like most mini\'s so I wouldn\'t pay an unreasonable amount of money for a particular miniature. I do love the classic grenadier and Ral Partha sculpts. It\'s probably just my retro,\"I love the \'80\'s\" phase. I think the Ral Partha slave auction is cool but I do see it listed quite often with large price tags. I\'m currently chasing the WOTC beholder from 1999. Are there any retailers selling them? ???

These people also haunt eBay religiously so unless you are desperate, or have just won the lottery, you are better off trying to compete with their buyers at source, ie on eBay. After all they do have a ceiling as they need to make a profit.

Good link though calebdark as they do often offer extremely specialised stuff, as you said however, you need deep pockets!

I have a lot of time for eBay. I have conducted hundreds of transactions there and have never (yet) been ripped off in anyway. There is also the real buzz to be had from the cut and thrust (and sniping) of auctioninglol:bouncy:

Ebay, feel the love, feel the hate

I too enjoy ebay and have never been ripped off. However when you ,\"win\" an auction you are paying more money for that item than anyone else in the world was willing to spend.:flame:

I couldn\'t possibly argue with that other than to say, \"...anyone else in the world (with access to eBay) was willing to spend\"

I have spent truckloads of dosh on eBay because it\'s like going into the world\'s biggest department store. All those things you never knew you couldn\'t live without - until you saw them:bouncy:

I have had some good bargains however and as eBay expands its customer base, I expect to make a nice fat profit on some of my purchaseslol

Famous last words?
