Varnish troubles

My biggest problem when taking photo\'s is the varnish.

If I take the photo without the flash the image is too dark, I\'f I take the photo, with the flash or in to much light, I get a really bad shine from the varnish.

Anytips on photographing minis that may have had a bit too much varnish on them.

Are you using a gloss varnish?
That\'s really bad for photos.
Go for a matte varnish instead.
And don\'t use the flash, instead work with the camera\'s exposition and get better lighting.

I\'m using matte varnish, well GW varnish so as matte as it supposed to be, but I still get a bad shine on them.

It\'s the same when I apply ink to a mini, I get a bad shine from that.

I need to cut out the shinyness.but how?????

GW\'s matte varnish is not matte, but satin! You should go for a proper matte varnish like Testors Dullcoat instead. That\'ll take care of the shine from the inks as well. Also, as have been mentioned, don\'t use the flash! Set up good lighting instead, preferably with some sort of diffusion between the light sources and the mini. :)

Yes, but if he\'s using inks he\'ll need the varnish.
I also noticed that when you varnish the layering on your minis gets smoother.

@ Talion: if you can\'t find Testors\' try Vallejo\'s instead, it\'s also good.

You can get shine from minis with any varnish or no varnish if you are using a bright light source and no diffusion between the light and the mini. Maybe you need a light diffusion setup (I know I do).
