Vallejo: Game Color Medium Glaze vs Model Color Matt Medium

I\'m purchasing some Vallejo Game Color paints and I see from reading through the forums that there are products called mediums that many painters use to help them achieve better and smoother painted effects with.

My question is which of these two would be best to use with Vallejo Game Color paints:

Game Color Medium Glaze

OR

Model Color Matt Medium

It looks like there are fewer of the medium products available in the Game Color range than there is in the Model Color range. Can the various mediums still be used across both of the Vallejo color ranges without any problems?

I\'m asking because I was thinking of getting the Matt medium but it\'s only available in the Model Color range (whereas there is Game Color Medium Glaze and Model Color Medium Glaze as well) and being new to all this... I wanted to make sure they are all still compatible.

Are these products designed and formulated to only work within their own \"family\" of colors... or does any acrylic based medium work on any acrylic paint. For example... would mediums from an art shop work as well with the Game Color range of colors?

Generally, you can use most products for acrylic paints with most brands of acrylic paint. But, each brand has their own properties and there may be variations in how a certain product behaves with a certain paint. There are even variations within a certain paint brand, so you can never be 100% certain that a specific product behaves well when used with a specific paint. But most products I\'ve tried have worked fairly well with a wide range of acrylic paints. I wouldn\'t think there are any problems using VMC medium with VGC paints or vice versa.

But, I\'d suggest you try using the paints without a medium first and see how they behave. You might not need a medium. And if you do, it helps knowing exactly what problem you have and chose the best medium for that specific problem.

You also might try a matte medium intended for acrylic artists like Liquitex. I use Liquitex with the Reaper paints, and it works quite well. Much cheaper too by volume.

the medium glaze is for adding to a heavily thinned down paint.

the matt medium, is to make a paint matt.

two different products mate.

I would actually disagree with you there, if you water down the matt medium it performs exactly the same as the glaze medium. I ran out of glaze medium and had the remnants in the bottom of my Matt Medium, so I popped the top and added water (a little). Hey-presto, glaze medium!

So to conclude, I\'ve stopped buying Glaze medium because it\'s pre-dilute Matt medium. Matt Medium will go ALOT further.
