Vallejo brown?

For anyone who uses a lot of VMC: which corresponds most to Raw Umber? Or are there - as I suspect - a few browns that are so similar that it makes little difference?

Thanks.

Good question, I can\'t really tell from the digital colour chart as the browns look a bit too alike - no surprise there.

Little difference in what way? Raw Umber paints vary quite a bit (as do most earth colours) was there a particular version you wanted to match or a specific use you had for the colour?

If it comes to it you can mix this quite easily from scratch, although it\'s a bit of a hassle just to get brown :)

Hmm. Okay.

Well, think of it this way: burnt umber is to raw umber as Citadel scorched brown is to VMC...? ;)

It doesn\'t have to be exactly like any brand of raw umber, but the name is a useful indicator of what I\'m looking for.

Thanks!

Roger, in that case I can\'t be much help without the paints in front of me, sorry.

But you could mix it from an ochre (Raw Umber is usually around the same hue as Yellow Ochre) adding a little black and a touch of red or orange.

Hmm. Thanks, but I\'d need to buy a yellow ochre to mix. ;)

Does anyone have any suggestions? I want to order a few VMCs in a few days (a couple of paintjobs I have are stalled until I get them) and I\'d rather order them all together.

And talking about other VMCs... I bought Coat D\'arms Royal Blue, which corresponds to Citadel Regal Blue AFAIK. Except Royal Blue dries a little too purplish for the job I\'m doing (WM Cygnar battlegroup), and from what I\'ve seen, Citadel Regal Blue is a lot less purple.
So what about the VGC equivalent? Imperial blue, I assume. Is that closer to Regal Blue?
And since Models For Sale doesn\'t stock the Game Color range, does anyone know which Model Color corresponds to Imperial Blue? (I see another Royal blue in the VMC range)

Lastly (I promise!), is Vallejo Matte Varnish actually matte, rather than slightly satin?

I\'m done now. Thanks.

941 Burnt umber is the brown I use the most, and for the blue I suggest the Game color night blue 19 I like the consistency of the game colors more but that is just me
hope this helps

You can mix ochre from a decent opaque yellow, black and red so just add in more ;)

I\'ve heard people say good things about this but when I tried it it was quite satin so it might vary.

If you can\'t get Dullcote there are a number of good acrylic matt varnishes for armour/aircraft modelling. Alternatively I\'d suggest Tamiya flat base + Future/Kleer, it\'s quite reliable even though you have to mix it yourself. It\'s best when airbrushed but what matt varnish isn\'t?

Spacemunkie, are you havin\' a laugh? If the official vallejo charts were any good I wouldn\'t have to trawl the net and bother people with over-detailed questions about obscure paints.

(Anyway, bothering people got me a link to these charts, which are actually of some use. ;) Come to me, chocolate brown...)

Well, yeah. But there\'s brown and then there\'s brown.

Besides, what I pick might turn out to be anything. It all looks black on the vallejo charts. ;)
