Vallejo Aerosol Primer issues

Hey all,

I've been away from the hobby for a number of years but recently getting back into the swing of things. I picked up Vallejo aerosol black surface primer and I think its not coming out as expected, so im looking for opinions fellow hobbyists!
The paint comes out, textured, on the model. Can you take a look and give any suggestions please? I have never used this primer before.

I have followed instructions from this site and prior experience, warm water, shaking for the can instructions recommended 1 min, 25 cm away and short thin bursts. Weather is not an issue as its 20c in Netherlands at the moment.

Perhaps it is meant to come out like this, a dakka forum post mentioned that it comes quite textured... but im not sure.

Thanks for looking!

wilks.

I managed to get a smoother finish by shaking for more minutes, keeping the can in warm water first for about 1 min and even shorter bursts of coats.

So think this one can be chalked up to me being an eejit :)

Almost Perftec! Aw, crap.
Aerosols are hard to manager in a temperate climate. I switched to acrylics through the AB or that i can brush on when it's just one mini. Much like where you live, in Canada I can only spray outside with reliable results for about half the year so it was a good switch for me. Here is my review of the acrylic primers i use:

Vallejo surface primer goes on nicely, though the white can be watery so maybe mix it with the black to get a better consistency. It is self leveling so even brushed on it dries nicely. The only drawback is that it is a polyurethane so if you try to sand it if just peels away from the surface. So if you are using that you have to make sure your prep is flawless before priming. That said if you do find something within the first 24-48 hours of priming it is easy to strip are start over. Also it's a bit more fragile and not super for gaming pieces or metal minis, but you can always seal them with a few layers of satin and matte varnish at the end.

Badger Stynylrez primer (sp?) is like Vallejo but much, much thicker and tougher. The only other key difference between the two is that you can sand badger acrylic primer with no issues for touch ups. I would use these more for gaming pieces or metal minis over Vallejo.

Hope that is useful for you :)
