Uncle Rivet Fan Art

Hi there, my name is Daniel (aka "Steam Crow").

I don't really ever do fan art, but I wanted to illustrate an Uncle Rivet poster for my own game table. (I do a lot of art posters over at steamcrow.com.)

I couldn't find any large images to work from, so I just looked at Ted's little sketch, the Flagg originals, and just made it up.

I also love George Orwell's 1984, so I like the idea of the Allies being a bit desperate - and trying to use Uncle Rivet to motivate troops - even with fear. Uncle Rivet can be a stern task-masker hero, right?!

Thanks for looking!

dude that is sweet, are you guna do a Blight one for the opposite wall, some of the Russian/German avant guarde (spelt wrong I know) film posters rivet styled would work really well, I looked at them back in high school

Super Cool. And the way you spelled out UNCLE made me wonder if when the Russian Expansion comes if we will get a Napoli Uno and Ivan Kinacurry rivets.

Thanks, guys!

I'd like to do a poster for the Mad Arch Duke, though I don't know what he looks like just yet. I'm going to make miniature version of the Uncle poster for my trench table (in progress.)

Did I somehow spell "uncle" wrong? Or are we just talking about the all-caps font?

Thanks for checking out my art. My poster art has been inspired by "old time" stuff for a long while.

That's fantastic, thanks for sharing! You have any bigger and/or higher resolution versions hosted somewhere? And, I suppose I should ask, do you mind your work being gleefully copied, printed and hung in areas guaranteed to upset my wife?

I believe the proper way to show your appreciation for an artist is to purchase his work, not ask for permission to steal it....

I despise your assumptions as to my intent to steal their work, but basically you're correct. I didn't realize they were advertising a product here, I thought it was being shared as a fine example of fan art to fellow fans. If steamcrow would like to charge for that, I'm completely in favor of them doing so and would happily kick in. I didn't see it in their store and made an assumption. Mea culpa.

I apologize, I took your question as "Do you have bigger/higher resolution versions of the work shown on Steamcrow.com?"

I really don't know if I have the right to sell the Uncle Rivet art as a product. (I do make my entire living from selling prints and artwork, so there's that.)

It would be neat to sell a few (since I spent my time doing that instead of other work), but it's not WHY I did it. I'm just really into Rivet Wars, as I love the art/concept.

I'm making a miniature version of the poster to include as a Rivet-scale poster to be placed here and there on my terrain. I'd be glad to share that with you guys, in case you wanted to make your own tiny posters for your terrain.

Calm, rational discourse on the internet. Clearly, the end times are upon us!

I'd like that, but to be honest, the larger size for wall mounting is what got my kids excited. I don't think I've got space for your 3D terrain tiles, unfortunately.

I have no idea about Super Robot Punch's position on your selling the artwork, although an ignorant non-lawyer would expect them to *have* a position at least. In any case, it is a nifty piece!

Yeah, I have a feeling this should have some say in the next Kickstarter as a minimal pledge goal or something. You should contact them over it.

Also, I've had the idea for a while that an artist (preferably Ted since I think he'd enjoy it, but you should try it out also, or any artist) should "remake" some of the Propoganda Posters on either side in Rivet Fashion. The idea came from just the avatar I have that we got for the Kickstarter, and thought, we should have a group of them. So remake a german/nazi propoganda poster with the Iron Chancellor, or something like that. And for Ruskan, well, they have some quality posters as well.

I've always loved propoganda posters, and as racist as most were, they are a cool art style and idea of what the state of countries were like at that point. I think it'd be very thematic for this game. I do enjoy the Tank and Iron Dragoon propoganda posters in the rulebook too.

Anyway, yeah.
