Hello,

Basically I\'m putting together a piece of software that I can use for role playing. Taking ideas from games such as \'Fallout 3\' and \'Oblivian\'.

Part of the design is a Strength to Encumberance ratio. The higher your strength value the more you can carry. I\'ve got it set up that as you pick up items, you will be able to see how much weight you can carry.

I reckon your average man should be able to carry around 20 - 30kg comfortably before becoming over-encumbered.

Anyway I\'m trying to work out the weight of various 40k weaponary and items. So anyone got any ideas on how heavy any items are?

I read that a Bolter shell is 0.8kg with each mag containing 30 shells - this can\'t be right as the mag alone would weigh 24kg.

Any assistance would be great.

24kg is nothing to a Marine although 800g per shell soes seem a little excessive. The shells themselves are supposed to be about the size of the GW paintpots which is why that style was chosen. I\'d probably go with 300g to 400g per shell.

Boltguns aren\'t meant to be carried by the average bloke. The ones used by IG officers and Necromunda gangers etc. are supposed to be scaled down versions of the ones used by Marines so I could see them having smaller shells. Don\'t forget that Marines manufacture their own equipment and don\'t make guns for anyone else. Any weapons made for non-Marines would have to be made specifically for average humans.

ok I\'ll go for 80g for a standard bolter shell and 800g for a heavy bolter shell.

Now for the bolter itself i reckon around 5-6kg which would be quite heavy to hold one handed for long periods of time for a standard guardsman but nothing for a marine.

Remember that the Classic Lee Enfield .303 Rifle which served the British Army so well, weighed in at around 4Kg (+/-).
That was Steel and Walnut (mostly) so an all metal framed weapon might weigh in slightly heavier.
