trying to teach you how to paint

Ok. So I had this idea, because I need to get better at painting and lots of you can join in!
It started out from what lono said„³to get better I need to start differently, do a mini in flat colours and neatly as well (the bit I find hard).
So what would happen is (if you want to), you can just say you want to join. To do this im going to do it with a space marine, im sure most of you have a space marine ;). Im doing it as a ¡§black templar¡¨ but the choice is yours.

What I will do is post a ¡§wip¡¨ every few days on the next stage.
Im expecting it to be a bit like this (a sort of calendar)

Day 1-ill clean the model and spray it.
Day 2-ill put on the basecoats
Day 3-ill start highlights
Day 4-ill finish the highlights
Day 5-ill start detail
Day 6-ill finish detail
Day 7-ill do anything else.

So in about 2 weeks I (and you) will have a painted black templar. Im expecting to do a ¡§wip¡¨ every two days.

Ill also try and cover things like nmm and osl, (im learning as well you know!)

If you want to do this then you probably need the following
1-space marine
2-spray paint (black)
3-caos black
4-blood red
5-codex grey
6-fortress grey
7-skull white
8-scorched brown
9-snakebite leather
10-bleached bone
11-red gore

With these colours im planning on doing a well painted osl nmm model!!!!

Of course its your choice but (lono said this, not me ļ) all kinds of painters do this.

Sorry, don\'t think I could string together seven days of painting. I got one day in the last two months, and I spent that priming.

But, I\'ll be happy to nit pick, and I\'m sure someone else would be happy to help bash on your ideals and hard effort. lol

Personally I say drop the OSL and NMM for now - but that\'s your call :) I\'ll follow the thread but won\'t participate since I\'m in the middle of moving house.

Hi groovers and shakers,
I must say that I agree with what Arma has said about not going for more advanced techniques such as OSL & NMM. I\'d focus on getting the rudiment techniques downpat first. Stuff like - neat base-coating, black-lining, highlighting, shading and perhaps a little simple freehand just to challenge your newly attained brush control skills. Honestly, it gets a lot easier the more you paint, and you\'ll find yourself able to paint stuff that you may not have believed you could have achieved earlier on. Also, I\'d recommend you get some skeletons (or something like that) to practice OSL and NMM stuff on. One brush stroke at a time my friend.

Also - I\'m not going to participate in this (although I\'d love to) because my new job and band rehearsal/performance schedule is way to jam-packed at the moment.

I only found a little time to do a little prep on my new Hasslefree mini last night. BTW - Hasslefree minis are the coolest!! And their service is amazing!!!

Have to agree with not doing OSL, if you\'ve followed the Iron Painter over at Wyrd Miniatures it\'s pretty evident how much trouble this technique can give the most advanced of painters!
Keep it simple to start with :)

I\'ll second that too, Hasslefree\'s service is great :)

Good advice from the previous three posters. I\'d skip the NMM and OSL until I got a handle on getting nice clean models with good blends. If you master that you\'ll have better luck with the trickier stuf.
