Are you trying to put the transfer on to a matt surface? If so you will have trouble getting it to stick and it will be visible once dry. Use some gloss varnish on the area where the transfer is going and them matt varnish it once the transfer is in place and dry!

The transfers or decals supplied by GW are rather thick and don\'t bend round compound curves like marine shoulderpads very well.

I bought some decals from Griffon Games in the US for my imperial Fists and found them to be very good - they are still a pain to get them flat but if you are patient you can achieve a good result.

You can also buy a softening agent to help mould the decal to the surface - I believe vinagar can be used instead but as I have not tried either i can\'t comment.

hope this helps

Transfers on curved or contoured surfaces can be a pain to get to stick. One way of achieving this is to get a decal softener (many military) modellers use this medium on things such like tanks that have heavy textured surfaces (think of the anti magnetic surfaces on WW2 German tanks for example). Basically you apply the decal and then apply the softener over it and this lets it be moulded to the contours of the model. If you can have a look at articles in publications like Tamiya modelling magazine as it is often mentioned in there as well as advertisements for vendors that stock it. Hope that helps.:D

Okay, I\'ve never used transfers (none have my heraldry) but here\'s what I\'d first try:
blowdryer!
I\'m assuming the transfers are plastic, like the ones I used to put on model cars when I was a tyke. If you place it as best you can, then blow a hot hairdryer over it, it should cause the raised bits of the decal to shrink away to nothing.
Just a theory, but worth the experiment. If I had any decals I\'d try it.

Two very useful products for Transfers are:

Micro Sol & Micro Set

Micro-Sol-
As everyone has mentioned is a tranfer solvent that \'bends/stretches/shrinks\' the transfer to any uneven surface.

Micro Set-
Does a very similar thing, but it \'sets\' the transfer to any given shape. AND as a byproduct will get rid of the nasty shiney edges you get with Transfers.

AND- Always Gloss varnish the area before placement, you get less air bubbles!

Once all this is done a couple of thin coats of Matt varnish (I use Vallejo).

Long process, but well worth it!

Both mine are from the US so you should be able to get them from most good military modeller sites!
