To paint, or not to paint -that is the question

hi all

Pick your brains please in regards to ebay selling....

I have a couple of Limited Edition pieces, form various UK games days, which have just sat on a shelf un-opened.

So, the question is; Would i get more for the item in it\'s mint unopened form, or should i put brush to tin alloy and paint \'em up?? (and yea, I can hold my own in painting...)

I\'ve also got some never released Tech Marines, although they were never blistered - I guess the same question applies....

your thoughts please nice CMON people... (and the Nasty ones too :) )

Mint is better, as the collectors who want these things will want them more for their own purposes.

I asked this on the Yahoo Citadel Collector\'s group some time back (a year or two?). Most answers were firmly in the \"keep it unpainted\" camp, with the exception being for high quality paint jobs. What high quality means for people of course varies -- I\'d consider that to be Alexi_Z, Haley, Yellow One, etc, but maybe they meant a level comparable to the top 250 here at CMON.

In my experience, I have seen only a modest increase in value on painted limited edition 40K figures I\'ve done. Unfortunately I haven\'t done enough of these to really draw any solid conclusions.

A poor or average paint job WILL decrease the value of a rare figure, however. Of that there is no question.

Seriously; maintain their purity. I would rather buy them unpainted; even if it was a Jen Haley or Eric J (insert all other painting gods I missed) I would want to paint them myself.

Well, i\'d say that was pretty conclusive :)

thanks for the advice guys. i\'ll pop em up on Ebay this weekend and post up the link if nyone is intrested.

Twill be last years marine sergant (GD UK) & previous years Archon on foot, plus those uber rare Adeptus mechanicus!! with not a drop of paint on them!! :)

Are the tech marines from the Skullz offer or are they truly unreleased?

In either case, make sure to include the correct wording... and couldn\'t hurt to give the Yahoo Collector\'s group a shout out to confirm if you don\'t know (or to let them know they\'re up for sale).

I did try, but my Camera is just too crappy for a pic. gonna speak to a mate and see if he can get me some serious snaps!
