Hi Ted (and all soon to be in the fight),
I'm sure most of those who read this forum regularly have seen the latest 3D board post-epic! As I don't unfortunately have the storage space for such artwork, I was wondering if there were any plans to have some more '3D-ed-ness' on the boards in the future.
As a fairly novice gamer I like Rivet for it's simplicity so I don't want to get bogged down with 'line of site' and in other threads you've stated that the trenches had been warn down to Rivet waist height, but saying that I'd still like more of immersive aspect of 3D on the board.
I wondered if the card was of a thick sturdy stock or foam backed it could be used in the same way as in 3d puzzles with the 'teeth' holding it together which would take only a couple of minutes to put together and could still be stored flat in the box. You could possibly use this on the trench edges too for more scenery, and the baords on the trench sides could be splintered at the top from the shelling hence the shallow trenches. (see dodgy drawing below)
I thought this could look really cool if you did something like the cross section picture of the trench from the art on Rivetwars.com, with the skeleton an bits of machinery on the outside edges of the board after being buried over the years in battle.

Also, as I really looking forward to reading the campaign PDF when released I thought this idea might lend itself to that also as the top playing surface could be double sided to represent different terrain/faction held areas (sand for Ottoman, churned field for Allies, and snow for Ruska's)
This could be good for border-fights if there is a storyline, with 2 different ground types,or certain bonuses for holding more territory after the last game. Also because of the trenches you could have two types on the same tile for a more broken up border than just a straight line (see second dodgy drawing, and yep totally forgot to add the teeth on the bottom edges of side pieces, but thet would push into slots in the base holding everythin stiff)

Particularly lookin to see what missionswill entail and the maps for each will look like, would I be right in thinking we wont just be playing on a square/rectangle board, but the tiles might not line up, -thinking rescue/turret defense scenarios on weird shaped boards :curl-lip:
Feel free to use all or none of my meanderings but I'd love to know yours and everyones thoughts-possible one time only print PDF of tiles maybe so we could '3D' our own without destroying those already in the box
