The Shaggoth - Idea Help

Ok, I\'m rather a fan of the Darkblade series of books, and for this year\'s GD I waned to basically recreate the Warpsword Front Cover

with models, I think the Malus on foot is already rather suitable for this diorama/duel, probably do some slight converting, but for the most part good, and I already own it, so that helps :)

The problem I\'m finding is the Shaggoth

I\'m not sure he looks out of the box, but £25 is a bit too much to spend on something which is just a nice concept at the minute. So I am asking/wondering if anyone has had any past experience with this model, or can help me out.

And whether they think trying to get the Shaggoth into the same/similar pose as he appears on the book would be possible, or too much?

Many Thanks

I\'d recommend converting the figure, but base it on a larger GW body in the same general shape. The shaggoth is a chunk of metal.

and the winner of the category ..the bleeding obvious goes to ainulainour from canada......:beer:lol
The biggest problem doing that cover is the scale of the beast.. the gw model is tiny compared to how it should be to be true to the pic...

The next thing is the movement.....
as pointed out the shaggoth is pretty much a couple of big pieces and a bitch to convert....

I would personally hack it to bits with a razor saw.. make cuts at the waist to seperatethe ogrish from the dragonish bits..
cut the arms off of the body and the hands off of the weapon.
seperate the dragon parts from the base and seperrate the legs from the body....

after ll that sawing then start repinning into the new positions..leave a bit of a gap with the pis and use putty to fill in and blend the joints...

hopefully that will help but f you want more help drop me a pm to remind e and I\'ll revisit this post..... good luck I really love that scene.

to answer your question wether it\'s worth buying or not I can\'t say .. it all depends on how confident you are in being able to pull it off and how much you want to do he piece.. I may even have a spare half chopped up shaggoth somewhere I may be tempted to part with.;)

i recently (couple of days ago) saw someone who did a shaggoth out of a giant.... way bigger than the usual thing. plus, it\'s plastic so you can convert it more easily.

well it\'s for next year\'s GD (yes planning already), so over the year I should become more confident with GS, and my converting skills, that come next summer I\'ll feel confident going into it ^^

Thanks for the feedback guys

Agree with the others on using the plastic kits, would be much easier to convert but the only problem is the price. The giant and high elf dragon kit would be double at least the price of the shaggoth

one of the main reasons i haven\'t done it yet.....

double the price, half the work....

I\'m not sure, the Shaggoth isn\'t THAT much bigger than Malus, and you have to observe that he is on a bit of a slope. I think giant/dragon bits, may be a bit over the top, although easier, it\'s scale and attention to detail I\'m looking for

I\'lltry get some pics later but kinslayer is right... the size is just about right with the actual minis ratherthan go into the effort of marrying the two kits.. The main thing is when replicating the rt to get the positioning , mood and some details...

The art was based on the model so all the detail is pretty correct...

marrying p a plastic dragon and giant would be just a straight nightmare IMHO where as repositioning the shaggoth won\'t be as hard as you think....
