The Imperial Armour books

i did a search on this, but nothing came up, so here goes: are forgeworld\'s IA books any good?

To elaborate a little, are they worth the 30 odd quid that they ask for? specifically, im thinking of getting the Anphelion Project, not as rules for the armies, but for inspiration for painting and general reading. im fasciniated by the whole \"science gone wrong\" ethos, but to be honest those 3 words just dont cut it for me, im really interested in what was going on, what happened and most importantly what the results were. so, is Anphelion a good example of this? or are there better books in the series? also, are there any shockers that I should stay well away from?

I don\'t know about being worth the selling price, but they are quite good. And the Imperium doesn\'t always win in them either, making it even more interesting.

I like the first Siege of Vraks book, specifically the part describing a Vindicare Assassin on the job.

I like the ones i\'ve read.

I\'m not sure they are totally worth the money but I bought them used off of ebay.

IA 1 - Great for the IG. Lots of camo schemes and ideas for themed armies. Not to many elaborate stories, just alot of hardware description and schematics. Lots of good inspiration especially now that 1/2 of the book is codex legal.

IA 2 - Same as IA 1, but for the space marine/inquisition types.

IA 3 - Lots of cool Tau tech. Good story. Lots of information. Overall very good and worth the $$. Plus I like the Tallarn.

IA 4 - Shorter than the rest, but the \'nid illustrations and descriptions are neat. Not as much flavor and story as the Taros Campaign but some specific unit description and such (red Scorpions, elysian drop).

IA 5-7 - I have only read the first two. The first is a good read. The second is not as good imo. It has some obvious grammar and spelling errors. It seemed to almost rushed in completion of content compared to the first and the IA3. Lots of good titan info.

My one major beef with all of the IA books is the lack of color photos of the actual painted models, displayed as models. Yeah its cool to see the pics they have and it keeps the flavor when they look like they could have been taken from the soldiers perspective, but i like seeing them from the modelers perspective as well.

They are definitely good, its a fair whack of money though. Depends a bit on what you want them for, the Vraks books are a bit out of date as far as army lists go, which is a real shame, Kreig done now with the new codex would be awesome.

For painting inspiration, you might be better off with their Model Masterclass book.
