The Curse of Video Card

I have had bad experiences with video cards in the past. Two of my previous video cards on past computers just quit.
Now the video card on my primary computer, a laptop, died as well. Aarrggh!!
It is 3 years old and not really worth spending money on replacing it.
I have asked my friends about their cards and they have for the most part never had video card problems.
So now I am $#&@ out of luck because I currently do not have the money to get a new comp and my current job will never be able to provide the financial means. So on to a new job search.

Kinda needed to vent.
Comments, similiar stories, sympathy cards, and donations welcome.
And GO->

The only problems I\'ve ever had with Vid cards has been due to overheating.
That aside remember it\'s cheaper to build than buy a POS name brand.
I spent around $1200 and it\'s the equivalent to one Dell was selling for $3500.

Ehh
I remember struggling qwith my video card...

4 years ago I have had Ge force 2 mx :D
Then I changed for Radeon- It was the worst mistake ever!

After buying a new Ge Force 4 mx 440 ;) -It was a rocket then :D- no game nor movie worked for over a year atr my PC...
The ATI card did something with my mainboard and I hadn\'t had the money to change my mainboard...

Now I have GeForce 6600 GT for a year and I\'m very satisfied - I spent about $200 on it last year and everything runs smoothly on it...

I have 1 thing to say from my experience ;)

IMO ATI cards are lame; - I got seriously pissed off when I couldn\'t do aything on my pc...

This is just my opinion and my case of \'the curse of the video card\'

I\'ve had numerous ATI and nVidia cards in my computers in my day... and honestly can\'t tell much of a difference. Each generation of card will lean one direction or the other, but I\'ve had like 5x as many problems with monitors than video cards.

Current two computers have Radeon 9800 Pro and X300 cards... they\'re starting to show their age once in a while, but in most cases they cruise along pretty smoothly.

Yeah my 6600Gt is still going despite me breaking a great big chunk out of one of the chips by breaking a heatsink off, I supergluded it back on and it works fine...

I didn\'t know you could replace vid cards on laptops, aren\'t they usually soldered in?

Some are, some newer ones aren\'t.

I think most proprietary laptops have the video card integrated into the motherboard so you can\'t replace just 1 part, its all or nothing. There are others that you can just replace the card and be on your way though. If you build a laptop I think most people would choose to have video card and motherboard seperate.
