The blue screen of death

ok, so as i\'ve mentioned before, ive just bought a new gaming pc. so far its been great, up until this afternoon. i was playing some music through spotify, and clicked shut down. usualy the music just stops and the pc shuts down normally. however, now the sound fille went into repeated beeplike gibbberish. next, screen goes black. and now (drum roll please): the blue screen of death rears its ugly head. well, i stare on terrified, and then screen notifies that its completed the memory dump, and goes black. monitor goes to sleep. i do nothing and the pc starts again as usual. i\'m puzzled by this as i thought the BSOD got its name from being the death of your pc which hasnt happened. also, according to google you\'ll may loose all your files. this also hasnt happened, the only thing like it is that i found my self logged out from CMON. all apears normal now, as is evidenced by me posting this, however i just need to be sure. so to all you computer savvy types out there: is everything fine now?

and for when that question gets the answer i dread:
Why not? Can i fix that? How much is that going to cost

any help at all is greatly apprieciated, Max

The only sure fix is to buy a mac. but I understand their new OS has a fatal flaw in it as well.

The BSOD, generally is just a lock up due to one of several things - memory conflict, device conflict, etc. The only files I know you lose from it are the ones open and unsaved.

If it persists, go back to a decent restore point and restore your PC.

BSOD is just a crash alert. If you\'re using a gaming system and you get it, you might want to see about the case temperature and ensure that it isn\'t too high for your graphics processor to work.

Hehehehe...

Bought a new mac this last month. It\'s crashed on me three times. Hadn\'t had the Dell PC crash that many times in a year.

And, on topic, as others have stated, it doesn\'t literally mean the death of the computer. Just crashed.

Can anybody elaborate on the problem with the new mac OS snow leopard?

I have a copy as I bought my new Imac within the qualifying period to get a free copy but haven\'t installed it yet if anybody could elaborate?

As the others have stated, the blue screen isn\'t something to fear, it\'s just a nuisance. Basically it is the computer going \'tilt\' and needs to do something about it.
So unless you haven\'t saved your game/work/whatnots for a very long time just giggle at Microsoft for a moment.

The only encounter I\'ve ever had with it was on my ancient Win95 machine, and once on my current laptop which runs vista. In that case, it was a bad driver update from HP, and vista restored my computer to the settings I had before I downloaded the driver. So actually, Vista actually fixed something. On its own. There\'s something to consider.

Anyway like others have said, it\'s no big deal, and as long as you aren\'t mucking up your system too much by deleting drivers and removing programs without uninstalling them properly, you should be fine.

The only reason the \"of death\" thing follows it is because it\'s scare tactic that fanboys use when they don\'t know enough about computers to properly bash them. Very rarely will a computer actually \"die\" and boot directly to the blue screen, and even then there are ways to fix it. Even if you switch to another OS you\'re still going to have crashes. I used Macs all the way up to G3, and I\'ll never go back. Especially now that they\'re all sealed in bakelite and I can\'t upgrade anything in 90% of them anymore.
