The Scorpion reads "For each unblocked Hit, Cavalry, Monster, and War Machine units suffer 2 Wounds." Giants read: "This unit only suffers 1 Wound for every 2 unblocked Hits from any Attack or effect".

In this situation the Giant's Ability takes precedence as 2 unblocked Hits were not generated.

Note: This specific interaction will be listed in future FAQ/Errata as one can argue the "technicals" of each side.

Excuse me for asking, the answer is a little confusing. May I ask for clarification?
- Scorpion hits giant, 1 hit. Giant takes zero wounds. correct?
- Scorpion hits giant, 2 hits. Giant takes how many wounds? Is it one wound (not only halving the hits, but also invalidating Scorpion ability to double wounds per hit), or is it two wounds (halving the hits per Giant defensive ability, but then the scorpion effect makes it double).

Michael would you please also clarify this interaction with dragons since they no longer auto hit. So say a dragon rolls a 3 and 1 on its two dice after all re-rolls would the giant take 0 wounds because there are not two unblocked hits? Or will it take d3+3 wounds and instantly die if the d3 is a 3. Thank you.

The dragon reads "hits from this attack can not be blocked, if this attack genereates any hits, instead of rolling defense dice, the defender suffuers d3+3 wounds and 1 ennemy in long range beocmes..."
Since the dragon attack inflincts wounds, the giant abilty is not relevant, for wounds are not unblocked hits.

Better solution would be to update giant unit cards with an ability that says "whenever this unit takes wounds, it takes half that many wounds, rounding down, instead" and get rid of their existing Panic and unblocked hits ability.

This is correct.

Ok, the Scorpion seems like the perfect weapon to fight monsters. But, this rule seems to make it ineffective. I don’t see that the question posed above was answered clearly with respect to giants.

Are giants basically invulnerable then? I understand that it may take massed infantry to kill a giant. But, wouldn’t a hit from a scorpion drop one pretty effectively?

Wait... What? You just contradicted yourself from your previous answer. First you stated that the giant's ability takes presidence because it says that it takes two unblocked hits from any attack or effect to generate 1 wound. But it clearly states on the dragon that the hits are unblockable meaning the dragon could still generate two unblocked hits and would only make 1 wound on the giant. Since the second part of the dragon says it generates d3+X wounds instead of rolling defence dice, this is an "attack or effect" that it would seem your original ruling of the giant taking precedent would apply as well....

Hecaton's solution cleans up the rules the most, keeps the intent of all the units involved, and future proofs the rules in the best way. I also highly recommend changing all instances of the rules where "two unblocked hits generate 1 wound" instead to "when this unit takes wounds, they take half round down instead"
