Testor\'s Glosscote

Well I\'ve finally got hold of some testor\'s dullcote but should I perhaps use the glosscote underneath?
Is it as good as the dullcote for what it does?
I mean gloss varnish is always more durable or so I hear.
Any ideas?

I would use both. The tougher the better right. I would do a test piece first tho just to make sure every thing goes well.

I give models a couple of coats of gloss then dullcote them twice.

Don\'t worry, the dullcote totally eradicates any glossiness plus they\'re now protected. Dullcote on its own just doesn\'t cut it.

Thanx for the welcome!
This may seem like a silly question, but will the metallics loose their shine after I apply the dullcote?

if you do just put some gloss back on it.

BTW welcome to the forums now you have to post a link to the mini in question to see if we know what we are talking about (most times we dont)lol

Well I\'ve gone through the varnishing rigmarole.
Surprised really, I know it\'s called dullcote but I didn\'t expect it to dullen the overall finish!
When placed next to a similar figure of equal colours the dullcoted one looked dull?
Is this normal? I used two coats of dullcote after 1 coat of gloss.

yes. But it should look better, well more realistic anyway. Its just different and you\'re not used to it yet...

I guess it\'s down to personal preference.
I agree with Trevor that it looks a lot more natural.
You can however quite easily \'gloss it up\' again.
The best thing to do is get a small pot of brush on gloss and put that on the weapons, jewels, armour etc. The contrast works really nicely.
If you want it glossier then you could always give it a spurt of satin varnish as this is a kind of \'halfway house\' between gloss and matt.

Plus it\'s now nicely protected and should protect your precious paintjob ;)
