Tank Tracks

I am building a large tank model. It is approximately 3 ft long (90 cm) and the tank will have 2 triple tracks. I am looking for tracks any size close to 40k models.
Unfortunately I am crumb out of ideas. Searched lots of places but the tracks are always too large scale. Any ideas are super helpful. Tanks a lot.

*I am not sure if I can link multiple Leman Russ tracks together?? Besides I\'d have to buy like 50 of them to get that length.
The landraider tracks are cool but are expensive and I beleive they don\'t go all the way around the wheels.

My advice is to sculpt your own track links and get someone like Fortress figures to cast you a billion of them. They can spin cast them in resin if needed. Its not going to be cheap, but much less than buying all those sprues from GW

Link to them is Fortress Figures

You know, you could get some hard setting putty, you can imprint the track shape in, and using the same putty make a mold of this once dry, the trouble is there is a special kind of putty for this and i can\'t remember the name, but it\'s similar to greenstuff, only a little more brittle, faster setting, and much, much cheaper (its a cream colour, anybody know what it is ???) if so it would work very well for the purpose as you could cut and assemble the tracks as needed,

plasticard could work, if you could make a template for the individual parts of the track and cut out a heap of them, but i can see this being very boring.

anyway hope this helps.

Call GW they have a tank spru that has an abundance of tracks on it. You will probably need 4 sprues worth.

And like they said you are insane.

Well, thanx. I appreciate the information, I will do that. I need like 36 ft of tracks because of the length and number. And yes I am insane.....

If you were wondering it is for 40k, it will be an ultra-heavy self propelled imperial guard artillery piece. Mohahaha!! I now have a digi cam so hopefully I will figure out how to use it. Then once I start I\'ll post the WIPs.

I was thinking maybe in a while, after constructing the monstrosity I might use it to go to my first Games Day. For the Demon competition.

Aren\'t we talking about milliput here?

Press-casting should work quite well, but it\'s gonna take you quite a white to do it at 36 feet of track.

And, yes, I\'ve spoken with my therapist, she concurs, you are insane.

Trust me he needs to make one master and either RTV and cast them himself or hire them out. 36 feet if hes lucky to have 1 tread= 1 inch.. 36 x12 = 548 links that would take forever one at a time.

Just a suggestion here, but why not look into some after market 1/35 scale tank tracks - in the long run while they may cost a bit, its cheaper than either a doing it yourself or b paying someone else to do it - several companies make them, I have some somewhere for the Tiger Tanks imported to the States by Marco Polo I think.

Good call Steelcult. As a 1/35 AFV modeller, the after market tank sets are very expensive generally However, there are cheaper ones. Academy do a set of tiger tracks for.....£3.99 - might suit your purpose and could buy multiple sets without breaking the bank:
Tiger Tracks

There is a set for the Panzer IV but these will be thinner and look out of place on something so large

and everyone else here in my ward agrees you\'re quite mad

And I thought he was building an Ogre at space marine scale - got all excited there for a minute.

Ogre? I was thinking BOLO, but it would have to be bigger, methinks.:D

Lloyd, you are showing your age now. I remember reading the bolo books (that I think the original Ogre game was based on.)

Technically an ogre at space marine scale would be as big as a car. I sculpted the one Ral Parth did for the Ogre line when they had the license. The scale was something like 1/2400 or larger.. even the infantry we did was out of scale really with the tanks.

I still have the mark V ogre. Always wanted to figure a way to use it with CBT (Battletech)

Was thinking the same thing myself, using a Mark XXX Bolo instead of the Ogre - and of course a really big board, and having to build the Bolo - or substitute a 1/35 scale tank or something in that size range.:D

Scary, huh?

I found a website showing larger scale models of the Ogre tanks (not sure if it was 1:72 or larger). Those model were huge and I think they were done by a wargame groups or so. Can\'t find the site any more. :( I did find a sit for Ogres in LEGO though: http://www.efran.org/embassy/lego-ogre.html

As to the tracks: I think I\'d also go for 1:35 scale model tracks. Though it would be nice if you don\'t use something too recognisable. I find Pz IV tracks on an SF vehicles distracting. ;)

On that subject, I assume the tank modellers here have already found the Panther/Jagdpanther parts on the Millenium Falcon? I\'d love to have a closer look at that model just to see how many parts I can recognise. :)

Edit: found the 1:35 Ogres
