I don\'t think the macro mode matters... In auto focus mode, if you\'re in focus, you\'re in focus and anyway point and shoots refuse to take pictures if it\'s not the case most of the time.
What I\'d try:
1. Put the camera on a tripod. If your shutter speed is only a bit too long it can ruin the sharpness of a picture in no time.
2. Put the camera in aperture priority mode and stop down the lens to f6 or so... It\'ll increase depht of field. You\'ll need a tripod then, because it\'ll take away much of your light and unless your lighting is very powerful you\'ll get rather slow shutter speed.
3. Full spotlights on the miniatures. If there isn\'t enough light, auto focus might not work well (you could try manual focus, but it\'s very hard to use on compact cameras...) and this could cause problems.
4. If macro mode is not necessary, why not turn it off? I don\'t think it\'s causing any problems, but you never know.... Or you could try taking a pictures with exact same settings with the features turned on/off.
This should yield sharp pictures...
