Table size?

Well, game was meant to be played on a 4x4, and that's what the rules say. But shouldn't be any issue on a 6x4, though I wouldn't recommend that.

Mr Black, good to see you're always here with an answer! Thankyou. :)

I'm getting in some games this weekend, so I'll try to film another battle report or two for the Esoteric Order of Gamers. :)

I found a 4x4 to be more than enough, even with an army with 18 morale. Increasing the size would likely make things difficult for a slow moving army, especially when objectives are involved.

2x2 with 15 and 4x4 with everything else. We have a Ravenwood campaign getting started :D Goritsi vs Nasier that we are using gridded campaign map and a GW RoB to play out.

Not to knock what works for you, THEONEKING, but I have to go with @EvilDave. The game is balanced for 4x4: Bigger overly hurts slow units, while smaller mitigates the negative (thereby making them more valuable).

Besides, when running demos I often use a half-size patrol build (1 leader, 6 infantry, 1 specialist) on a 2x4 table. With that division, I can easily threaten the whole width of the board with 6 ashmen and 1 hakar. It's not often a pretty result (I want the demo'er to win, afterall), but it shows how messing with the table size can have unforeseen results.

If you try it, be aware that you'll end up with a tunnel effect. There's no lateral space to maneuver as it's only 2 feet wide. Even a small force can effectively shieldwall and push up the table. Like I said, I ONLY use it for demos, and ONLY for half-Patrol size (so smaller than any sanctioned game).

Let us know how you adapt your armies and how it turns out!

So doing the core again from Ravenwood boxed set with 2x4, worked about the same as 2x2...the #$%I)#^ Goritsi were still all over the place. Managed to corner them and lay down some righteous Nasier Wrath upon them! So,....works good.

Any other observations? Goritisi will be all over the place: it's the army theme.

If you're looking to limit a single army's play style with a different table, I'd advise you change tacks. It's better to change your play style or strategy. If you're trying to overcome a real (or perceived) deficiency in the game, what is it that you're trying to fix?

Nah, just reporting my findings. 2x2, 2x4 about the same, generally when there are only about 6-7 models are on the table its fine. it did seem small being the recommended size for the treachery set, but then yeah, small intro makes sense. Havent found any deficiencies in the game(except the one dance master having a melted face in the goritsi starters, thats annoying), we are loving it.

Yeah, there's a good reason that Patrol is the smallest official game. I use smaller for demo purposes as too many units confuses the rules (but highlights the tactics).

Keep us posted on how playing with the table size works out. Personally, I'm always interested in trying new scenarios.

fight went off a weekend later, was...interesting, I was the first eliminated with Nasier, but made em all hurt. our Goritsi player eventually won, but it took a few hours. We will definately be keeping this to about 4x4 and 1 v 1 for the foreseeable future. But the good news is the game to us at least scales very well.

Sounds interesting. Any other feelings based on the game?

Also, how did you handle player deployment zone overlap in the corners? Did you just let them merge or did you section them off somehow?

we ended up treating it like two 4x4 boards side by side with about 8 inches seperating the two for deployment. terrain was placed to keep some seperation as well. I rank this game right up there with confrontation, lotr, and chronopia pretty much my favorites. being it is the only one of the bunch other than lotr still in print (and the only one readily available in flgs) we are amassing quite a bit of stuff. the only hard part is sticking with one faction, most of us have all 5. It was a bit of a chaotic affair, but it was a lot of fun.
