Swirling Warpaint Tattoos?

I\'ve been trying to figure out how exactly these work. Every once and a while, I\'ll find a mini on this site that has INCREDIBLE swirling tribal warpaint. It almost looks like it\'s been branded into the skin. Pic id 3137 is a damn good example of this. Pic 19866 is a good example of this too. Is this done by underpainting the design or a heavy wash of the skin tone atop it? I\'m dying to try this out on a robe for my farseer. Been trying to experiment with it, but I haven\'t done well with it yet. Any ideas?

Well, I\'ve never done it on my own, but I have some ideas how you can work it.

1) first paint the whole surface the actual color. Then you paint the swirls with a darker color. And inside of them you highlight the lighter swirls on the top side.

(keep in mind that you have to keep the lines neat and and equal to each other)

(and if you make the lines quite broad it\'s easyer to fix mistakes)

2)Ask the painter yourself at the comments page of mini 3137
