America as a single country has more influence on the world economy than any other single country.

You do have a bit of a tendency to invade other countries from time to time.

So who is in power there can make a significant difference to the world at large.

@mattrock the funny thing about your statement is that considering the size of your deficit it has been a very long time since your taxes covered anywhere near what your government spends, dem or rep

There\'s nothing at all funny about it in my opinion. But the problem isn\'t lack of taxation, it\'s lack of control in governmental spending. If our politicians kept there personal budgets as well as they keep the national one, they\'d all be homeless and destitute.

And as far as the invading other countries thing...it\'s true (if a bit one-sided) but thankfully we\'re the only country in the history of the world that invades and yet doesn\'t claim the defeated land as our own (not that we haven\'t done so in the past, but we don\'t currently own large pieces of Germany, Korea, etc.) We catch and release. It\'s a sport. (kidding of course).

@ Roger - Romney isn\'t out, he simply suspended his campaign. He\'ll still keep all the delegates he\'s won up to this point.

...on second thought...for all intents a purposes he\'s out despite technicalities. Good call.

Not sure I got this right but is it true that in Britain the candidates are only given a few weeks to campaign then you have the election?

lol

While I am a registered Republican, I find myself straddling the fence sometimes, so to speak. I don\'t like Obama or Hilary though. I voted for McCain, and will vote for him again in November if he is on the ballot.

What I don\'t get is how the Dems spout all this nonsense about \"change, we will change everything if you vote for me!\" but they offer no clear plan on how they will do it... and they offer to make more and more government programs, without any plan on how they will pay for it, plus a war, plus whatever else... I guess they will just keep printing money until the US economy goes crashing into the abyss~
Shawn, I agree, I can\'t wait till it\'s all over, there\'s too much drama, it\'s all too MTV nowadays, they might as well make the primaries a reality show... who will be the next \"Top Candidate!\"

Shawn, In essense that is correct however the constant bickering, sniping and backstabbing that occurs throughout a Parlimentary cycle is in no way different to the electioneering (Sometimes refered to as \"Hustings\") that occurs after an election is called.
The UK doesn\'t have \'fixed terms\' (as the US does) for it\'s legislative bodies, and I \'m not sure if that\'s a good thing or a bad thing.
Modern Politicians (and by that I mean Members of Parliment, from the last 30 years) have made all but a hard core of the politically active/aware population apathetic and dissatisfied. There are very few of them I would consider People of Integrity.
I only met a few MP\'s while I was \'politically active\' and only one of those struck me as someone who was \"honest\", Dennis Skinner.
