Once again I come asking for some advice,

I have been asked to paint a summer wood elf army using the colour\'s from the army book, so far not a problem but....

she doesnt want the bases the same as the ones in the book, its a sand painted like earth with static grass effect.

So what should I do, I have really no idea and need to pick your brains people.

thanks for the help!

Check out http://www.ecscenics.co.uk, they offer a whole range of alternatives to static grass (or additions).

Under the Landscaping category, you can get yellow, white orange and red \'flowers\'. Mix in with a bit of summer medow static grass and it (might) look good.

Thanks 2 good sites there.

Just not sure what a summer woodland base should have on it.

spring = new srubs, spring plants etc
summer = no idea :)
autum = fallen leaves, dead trees etc
winter = snow

I just cant think of a good theme for summer, anymore ideas ?

You still get fallen leaves in the forest - anytime of year - just make \'em more green than brown :p

So try using some herbs or shell out for some synthetic (And scaled) leaves

Also - how about adding some ferns?

Ohhh ferns what a great idea.

So a base with small amount of grass, fallen leaves <green> and ferns, maybe a mushroom lol

thanks DaN getting a better pic in my head how to go about this.

Ohh any good places online for \"synthetic (And scaled) leaves\" ?

scalelink.co.uk do good, but expensive etched brass leaves, whilst birch seeds will simulate good leaf litter.

I have used both on my dryads and treeman although these are autumnal...

Yeah, I can further recommend scale-link myself! :) The sizes are in ratio, 1:60 scale is suitable for 28mm figures. Target, you need to get a better pic of those lovely dryads mate, they looked a lot better IRL ;) And all those scale-link leaves must have set you back a bomb :eek:

I recommend http://www.hasslefreeminiatures.co.uk/ for etched foliage. You can order smaller quantities.

Besides, they have a great service and even offer candy with each order! :D

Target: Amazing work on that Treeman and Dryads. Truly amazing. :beer: I\'m working on my Wood Elf army at the moment, and deciding how to use all the etched foliage I\'ve been buying for them. Could you answer a couple of questions?

How did you glue the foliage to the bigger branches?

Did you paint it in the frame or on the model.

Any tips in particular?

Thanks mate! :drunk:

I would just brighten the green up, instead of starting with (e.g.) Dark angels green and highlighting up, start with a (e.g.) 50/50 mix of DAG and scorpion green, or goblin green, and highlight up into the yellows.

Basecoat with bestial brown and add 10% percent snot green, then 20% and so on. This method makes the cape look more natural and helps the miniature fit in to the setting better than straight, cartoony green.

As matty said, highlight with watered down scorpion green, gives a really warm summery feel to the cape, but a bit cartoony, I like it though:D
