Summer Desserts

Cake or Death?
So we just had a backyard BBQ last night, and the topic of summer desserts came up. Since I\'m bored (and the weather isn\'t conducive to painting), I was hoping someone would show me theirs if I showed mine...

Fruit Cobbler

1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup white sugar
1 cup self-rising flour
1 cup milk
1 12 oz. can of peaches in syrup (but any pie fruit filling will do as long as it\'s in juice)

1) Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
2) In 9x9 glass baking pan, cream together sugar and butter
3) Mix in Flour and Milk, and stir until the mix is smooth with some lumps.
4) Pour fruit over the top of the mix and cook for 60 minutes.
5) Let sit for 15 minutes, then serve with vanilla ice cream.

So that\'s mine - what do you guys have?

Orange Boodle\'s Fool!

Can\'t remember the exact recipe, but it involves the juice of lots of oranges and a few lemons mixed with thickened cream and sugar and poured over sponge fingers. Then you leave it to chill until the fingers have gone all soft and delicious (overnight\'s good). Yum!:drool:

Also, summer fruit pudding- line a pudding bowl with slices of white bread that you\'ve cut the crusts off, then fill with a lightly poached mixture of red and black summer fruits (strawbs, raspberries, blackberries, etc). Top with more slices of bread, then put a plate with a weight on top to cover the bowl, and leave to sit in the fridge until the fruit juices have soaked into the bread. Serve slices with cream or icecream.

Damn! I\'m hungry now! lol

after a bbq, slice some bananas and put them in some tin foil. add some demerera sugar, close the foil into a package and put on the embers. leave till it turns to a lovely caramel sauce. then drop into a bowl. if you want you can add southern comfort/drambuie and cream

Fried apples over icecream. Slice green apples, heat in butter in a fry pan until soft-ish, add brown sugar and allspice (I like it better than cinnamon) spoon over icecream. Wonderful stuff! Fattening, but wonderful!

I don\'t really know any dessert recipes, but I made a delicious beef soup the other day. :D

I may just have to try out that peach cobbler. I like recipes with really simple ingredients.

Blackberries grow wild around here -- everywhere!! One of my yearly goals is to make a blackberry pie. Me and some friends get together for pot luck\'s every now and then and it\'s understood that I will supply a pie!!

Kind of funny, I just got back from the grocery store and they had little pack\'s of blackberry\'s that held about a cup of berries in each - $4.50!!! I walk about 15 minutes from here and get about 50 pounds (literally) for nothing!!

It\'s been a fair while since I\'ve done it (don\'t have a grill), but you can grill fruit. Slice up apples, peaches, pineapple, stuff like that and put it on the grill. I was surprised how tasty it is.

the BEST Summer Dessert.

Keep Watermelon in a ice cooler for a few days.

Bring it all outside.

Cut Ice Cold Watermelon into good sized wedges.

Add a smidgeon of salt, serve on a pie pan.

Spit seeds at passerbys.

Keep eating it until watermelon juice is beginning to dry on your forearms, and flies are starting to carry you away.

Rinse whole body with garden hose.

Eton Mess - raspberries, crumbled up meringue and cream mixed together

Tequila melon - cut hole in a melon, pour tequila to teh top, plug hole back up again. Top up for the next few days. BBQ day, pour tequila into jug and make margeurita, slice melon and eat (and watch the shock on peoples faces!!)

Grilled pineapple - stick on a skewer and grill, then slice off and enjoy

BBQ banana - slice the skin of a banana down one side - put chocolate buttons in (for the kids) or rum and a little honey (for the big kids). Wrap in foil and stick back on the BBQ until warmed through

Summer dessert :

Sweet garden strawberrys - not the supermarket ones! Picked no more than 10 hours before serving, because they lose flavour fast and don\'t keep well at all.

Serve fruits well washed and leafy tufts removed with a bowl of whipped cream to add optional for the gluttons.

http://www.rowsehoney.co.uk/articles/our-other-products/maple-syrup

I buy the Rowse Pure Canadian Maple Syrup (Medium) because it\'s what they have... it\'s as good as the stuff I had in Canada.

Tesco\'s or Sainsburys.

Mmm, that sounds good. What kind of maple syrup do you use for this?

Lassi:

Simple refreshing summer drink:

1:1 water and yoghurt (can also be kefir), stir it and add
some fruit syrup of your choice.
Give in cooler for some minutes.

Enjoy!
