Sub-assemblies and airbrushing.

Greetings everyone.

Being a bit new to airbrushing (by which I mean I recently figured out which way to aim the brush :silly!: ), I wanted to ask a question pertaining to it. Does anyone have any experience airbrushing, and specifically airbrushing highlights zenithal or otherwise while painting in sub assemblies? I would think that there would be a greater chance of the highlights not quite matching up if it's done that way and I would love to hear if anyone has any tips or such. Just to make things all the more clear, I am talking about things that are supposed to be same color but in separate assemblies, like say and armored arm being the same color as the armor on a mini's body.

Thanks for any help.

If you can, blu tack the sub assemblies together to get as close as you can to what the final construction will be and then do the Lighting set up coat. Then once the paint is well and truley dry you can pull it apart and go back in on each sub with your brush.

It's one of those things you get better at with practice. For the dreadnoughts I've done, I've base coloured everything and then completely shaded and highlighted the body. That then gets put to one side and used as a reference. The arms will be mounted on pins and as I'm shading and highlighting I'll compare them to the body to make sure that I'm hitting it the same at the correct angle :)

Alright, looks like it's a practice sort of thing, or at least try out one thing or another. Thanks for the tips!

What scale figures are you airbrushing? One tip would be to thin out your paint a lot, use a very low air pressure, and get in very close to your work. Work slowly with multiple thin coats to build up the opacity, and to add shading and highlighting. Of course, details have to be brush painted. :smile-big:
