Best way to strip plastic minis is a 50:50 mixture of acetone and turpentine. This works especially well on any old, irreplaceable collector minis you have around, such as beaky Space Marines or Hero Quest.

Doesn\'t that eat the plastic?

I know Acetone by itself will do a number on plastics in just a few minutes. Does the Turpentine cut it enough to prevent that?

How long do you usually soak for?

Edit:
Or was there sarcasm there that I missed the first time around?

Agreed. Something like \"The Top 10 Things To Know Before Posting\" or \"We\'ve Got Your FAQ\'s Right Here\" or something.

A good way to strip plastic is to use bleach. Just let it soak for 2 hours. Don\'t let it stay too long or the plasit will turn very rigid and more fragile. It will not eat details.

Need a stick on this...

Here\'s some surefire ways that I use, in decending order:

- castrol superclean (dilute 1:1 with h20)
- simple green
- ELO (takes a while, expensive...)

I\'ve know other people use pine sol, oven cleaner & brake fluid.

Castrol\'s the bomb though. It works like a charm, doesn\'t hurt anything. Strips almost anything, including enamels.

Dettol (UK) - you can let it soak for ages with no damage. Just whizz it off with an old electric/batttery tooth brush

Think Pinesol is US version

I know this is an ancient thread but does this method work or is it a case of \"haha! I\'ve made you melt $500 worth of minis\"?

I have had wonderful results with Simple Green. In about 10 mins its ready to go. Plus the the best thing is its reuseable had some in a mason jar for almost a year and all i do is filter out the paint chunks that come off the minis and throw a new batch of horrid minis in.

Brake Fluid!
Leave over night and brush off with an old tooth brush (or someones you dislike). Stripped my entire Imperial Guard Tank squad this way.

Doesn\'t melt,
Cheap,
Mild on plastic tough on paint,

Job done!
