Starting Cygnar with this list, is it doable?

Hi, I am planning to start a Cygnar, but I am a complete newbie. Dont even really know the rules too well, so i am not sure if this is doable, please help:

Kraye
3x Hunter
1x Ol Rowdy
1x Squire

490pts.

Is this doable? I\'m doing this for flavor as well as fun play. But i am not sure if it is allowed to have 3 Hunters and an Ol\' Rowdy, due to focus. I see a lot of army list with a lot of infantry, dont know if that is required. Nor do I know if having 4 jacks are too many (may be Focus doesnt allow this, for example, is something I dont know).

Is this legal? If so, is it playable?

I\'m thinking of using Kraye + Hunters to run & gun; it is cool that all my jacks are light cavalry and has great mobility. Except for Ol\' Rowdy which I planned to use as melee support should people get too close to Kraye, or in the right situations use him to Impact Attack by charging and/or counter charging. This deal with infantry swarms trying to take advantage of Kraye\'s large base.

Little squire is there to support Kraye. 1 use being that it can extend control area by 2\" and it generally has some cool abilities. my points are quite full already, so spending the 18pts is better than letting the unused points go to waste.

Alternatively, Kraye + 3 Hunters + full team Storm Lances (5 models) = 500 pts exactly. Thats cool theme wise too but in this case I dont get to turn a heavy jack into cavalry, with the use of real cavalries...

Any other heavy jacks I could use in place of Ol\' Rowdy?

It\'s legal, but general practice tends towards more infantry, simply because in points-vs-effectiveness, they tend to be a little more \"bang for the buck.\"

While there\'s not a set limit on how many jacks a caster can use, there is an effective limit due to the Focus requirement for getting jacks to do more than their most basic functions.

I\'d recommend checking out the Privateer Press forums, particularly the newbie and Cygnar community forums. People are mostly helpful over there. I don\'t know much about Cygnar, since I play Cryx, but I can tell you that this list would be almost completely ineffective against any troop heavy list, especially Menoth or Cryx. The hunters have a really horrible POW on their gun when dealing with small-based models (the 1/2 ARM thing only applies to medium or large bases), and while they\'re maneuverable, they can\'t take much damage.

Ol\' Rowdy, on the other hand, is definitely worth taking. He\'s not much more expensive points wise than a regular Ironclad, and he\'s well worth it. A squire is also almost always useful.

If you\'re really grooving the Kraye and cavalry thing, you could do this:

Faction: Cygnar
Points: 494
Model Count: 11
Victory Points: 18

Captain Jeremiah Kraye
> Squire
> Lancer
> Ol\' Rowdy
Major Katherine Laddermore
Stormsmith
Storm Lances [4] (1 added)

That gives you more cavalry, and Laddermore is pretty bad ass. Stormsmith is decent, and mostly there for filler points. They\'re really good against armies that have stealth and so on, since their stormcall is an ability check, and ignores stealth and doesn\'t even require LOS.

Welcome to Warmachine, BTW!

I\'ve played against Kraye a few times. Yes, it\'s doable. Under Kraye, the light \'jacks have Light Cavalry rules, which makes them mobile as all get-out, but you have to keep yourself aware of his Control Radius, and the limitations on their mobility because of it. Focus can only be allocated while they\'re within that radius.

I would suggest dropping one Hunter, myself, and including Junior (The Journeyman Warcaster) to help focus efficiency, and either a mercenary or two (I don\'t know Cygnar\'s point costs very well) or a small unit of infantry for support. Cygnar has some great options, and since you\'re gearing up for fun, rather than competetive play, I strongly suggest that you try your list as is, first, see how it goes, and then adjust as you feel is necessary, while sticking to the style of play that you want and enjoy.

I would personaly run something like this:

Kraye
-Sentinel
-Sentinel
-Hunter
-Centurion

You have 68 points to spend on solo\'s (Journyman Warcaster, Strangeways, Gunmage Captian Adept, stormsmiths, Alexia, Aiyana and Holt etc)

Kraye spams his boosted shot spell and lets the Sentinels uncork badguy troops. Hunter is there for hard targets and the Centurion is there to put his double movement spell on it to send it on the feat turn 15 inch boosted charge of doom. Or something like that.

Kraye\'s alot of fun, but I\'ve not had alot of sucess with him. I did do well at 750 with this list:

Kraye
-Centurion
-Hunter
-Sentinel
-Sentinel
-Lancer
Sword Knights x 8
Nyss Hunters x 8
Journyman Warcaster
Alan Strangeways
and I think that was it...

It did well against pVlad with some luck and just barely lost to eVlad in the tourny I played in. Hope that helped!
