It’s been a long time since I posted anything on these boards, i never felt like my work was equal to the quality that I as being displayed. Thanks to the recent NY Times Article entitles, “In Praise of Mediocrity” I decided that is was time to change that. I will post a link to the article when I get to my computer, I am writing this post from my phone.

Two years ago I purchased this kit at Jearsey Fair, my first experience with a hobby convention. When I saw this kit on the sellers table I knew I had to have it. The whole drive home I was planning color schemes and deciding if I wanted to expand the base (still haven’t fully decided on that). I had lots of time to plan science I needed to Cross the George Washington Bridge and take the terribly misnamed Cross Bronx Expressway (the Cross Bronx Parkinglit is an accurate description at all hours of the day and night) but I digress. I got home started to prep the resin kit then began to have second thought about it, I had never painted a kit this large, especially not a half naked female. The kit went back in the box and sat on my shelf until The NY Times Article. Armed with a better airbrush and the Createx Illustration Colors Time Gore’s Bloodline paint set I d cider to have a go at the kit.

I decided that after two years the primer was as cured as it was ever going to get and started airbrushing the figure. Here are the photos I took of the initial highlighting and shadows appli d to the skin. The highlights and shadows were mixed into a clear base before being applied as was the final glaze.

Colors used:
5027 Lifeline Deep Natural (base)
5024 Lifeline Deep Blush (1st shading)
5029 Lifeline Intrinsic Shade (deepest shadows)
5026 Lifeline Natural (1st highlight)
5025 Lifeline Light Natural (Final Highlight)
5027 Lifeline Deep Natural (Glaze)

Thanks for the support.

I painted the hair last night but for some unknown reason, Apple products won’t work when their battery is discharged. For the first time on a figure I am trying/using tube acrylic paints. The oldof saying that you get what you pay for is spot on! The Golden Acrylic Colors I used went on great, but the cheap storebrand tubes I purchased at the going out of business sale took 3 coats to build any coverage. Tomorrow I am going to hit Michaels for some more GAC paints.

Colors used:
Tube acrylic burnt umber
GAC burnt sienna (dry brushed over hair)
Minitaire Scorching Red D6-129 (applied as wash over hair)

Had a good painting session tonight, I finished the face for the moment. Still trying to decide if I want to addmorr make up or keeper her more natural. According to her backstory, she was a virgin sacrifice left for a dragon by her people before finding out she is a warrior. The eyes were painted green following the instructions from David Fischer’s Midel Mania disks. I highly recommend these to anyone who is interested. The lips were darkened with GAC deep portrait pink. Once I finished and sealed the face, I decided the hair was too red and applied another dry brushing of GAC Burnt Sienna.

Paints used:
GAC Deep portrait pink (lip base and blush)
GAC Deep portrait pink + GAC sandal wood (lip highlight)
RMS leather white (whites of eyes)
RMS pure black (pupils and eye liner)
RMS forest green (iris base)
RMS Grass green (iris highlight)
Tube acrylic pthalo green (eyeshadow) applied as glaze
GAC burnt sienna (hair and eyebrows)

I decided to abandon my original idea of painting her armor Red with gold trim after finding an image of a female necromancer in dark steel and purple armor, the colors of the image popped. I am hoping to achieve the same when I paint the metallic parts of her armor. I painted the softer (or at least what I think are the softer) parts of the armor in purple.

Colors used:
Reaper Bones Eldritch Purple -mid tone
RMS Royal Purple - 1st highlight
Reaper HD Witchcraft Purple - 2nd highlight
Reaper Bones Succubus Kiss -1st Shadow
RMS Red Shadow -2nd shadow
Reaper Bones Eldritch Purple -glaze

Here is the photo that caught my attention. Posted from my pin interest feed

It’s been a fun few days, one (or both) of the regulators or water separators decided to start leaking last week, the slow leak grew until the compressor was cycling every hour or so. After rebuilding the system twice, I broke down and bought new regulators and water separators from my local Harbor Freight, this time I put a shut off valve before each regulator, no more air leaks!

Last night I was able to listen/watch a movie while I painted (without interruptions from the compressor) and managed to get the skulls and boots painted. The goal for tonight is to get the sword hilt painted and a primed sword blade attached to the figure.
