You did good conversion work with all these minis. I like you Mage Diorama but Ithink it is a bit empty. Your dwarves also look good but the pic is crap. Good painting of all your converted minis.

I'll be getting some pics up later today once I finish some work up. I have been rebuilding his bionik arm as the previous one continued to sag until it was lower then the base. I've got all the boyz primed so one I get some paint on them they'll get some pics as well.

cheelfy: thanks bud, and I agree I snapped the dworfs off fast got 2 more to get done for it once I get something goin on them I'll get better pics up. And trust me the diorama will be gettin alot more done to the base (ran outta GS but got my order in the other day) main plan is a grassy field with scorched grass and such with the rocky outcropping. On a funny note a dude on the waaagh mentioned how at the moment it looks a bit like a back to the future set with the flaming tire marks and the lightning. Got a good laugh outta that.

Scott: Thanks bud married life is sweet!

Skellettet: Thanks, as am I havn't played warhammer or 40k in 14 years or so but I love the space orks got a big soft spoft for the jolly lil' aggresive buggers. Once I get some platicard I'll be gettin some real converty-ness on so hopefully it lives up to orky expectation.

Alright here's the 2 tests on the skin tones that will be atleast a base for my mobs skin tone, wanted to do something other then green so I did a quick google for mushrooms and fungus and saw a neat steal blue green lichen and alot of red-scarlet-orange mushrooms so gave those two a whirl. What do you all think, I had trouble getting the scarlet to photo right but it is a fair bit more to the scarlet / burgandy shade of red then the dark red I see atleast in the photo.

Skeletet: The head on my boss is from warhammer fantasy's Orc boar riders it was either a spare head in the standardbearer or heroe's pack.

Also I've been hunting for a tutorial I read years ago I think on armorama but at this point I'm not sure, it was definatly a historical modeling tutorial. It was on making flamethrower flame jets out of wire with cotton batting pva'd to it and painted sort of thing, but from what I remember it had some nice little tips in it. So if anyone knows what I'm talking about lol then please let me know, and thanks.

'The Finger' orc is one epic piece :D
Also love the colors on him, he kinda reminds me of one of those chaos orcs from Warcraft 3

Like the steel blue skin tone. Kinda a night world sneaky feel to it. Not to big on the red tone, looks/feels a bit to Genestealer to me. Oh, well both are well done.

mud duck: Thanks and I hear ya it's hit or miss with alternative color schemes on orks but just green all the time gets boring :yawn: but after these boys I'll be getting back to some more traditional orks.

mr rowe: thanks for the encouragment, the formula is cake I use rms paint (reaper master series) and it's the a base of violet red, shadows of burgandy wine, highlights of pale violet, and then some brief highlights of pale violet with a touch of linen white for hot spots. Then I do a couple washed with violet red to tie it all back together and finish it off with some selective washes of burgandy wine in the shadows. They all come in nice triads the violet triads serial numbers are 09025, 09026, & 09027. Hopre that helps!

Made a bit of progress on the heavy gunner. I am a tad stumped I spent an hour searchin articles and forums last night but couldn't find much on painting a damage wear and tear effect on painted metal (only solid answers I found were in shawn r.l.'s article posted by freakinacage, ty both it's been a big help) so I just wanted a quick nod if I'm on the right aproach. I have the base color painted, so now I would take a base shade grey and apply it as a base speckle where I want the chips to be, then slightly off cent of the base grey go a shade up and progressivly smaller amount till I would put in a few hot spots with white (should a light silver work as well?). Thanks for any help with this I'm doin some tests on sprue but getting a little frustraited.:at-wits-end:

Alright enough of the boring text heres some pics

I'm not as good as you when it comes to painting but what I find works well with red armour is brown (I use GW scorched) with red highlights on the edges or you could try grey for the silver? I dont know just thought I'd try help.

Rowe: Thanks bud, I'll try that out. Main pain I'm having is I usually will add small divets and dents and then paint the details, where here I'm trying the effect on a smoth surface. lol in the end it may just get some lil chips on a couple spots and just grime and rust it up and call it good. And don't sell yourself short as long as you get a kick out of what your painting then what else matters, plus the more ya paint the easier it comes (right now it's still half a pain for me I reglaze then re wash then rehighlight for alot longer then is neaded). I just took a peek at your gallery and I'll give ya props you have an excellent base and you certainly are up for trying alot bolder things then I normally would.

I made a bit of progress on the big shoota ork should have some funished shots of him later today.

What I usually do for nicks and chips is this, especilly aong the edges.

Put a few dabs of Devlan mud on the spot I plan to chip or nick, then when that dries in the center of it put a smaller dab of metalic. seems to tarken up the edges asround the chip to make the metalic really stand out. Gryphone sepia mixed in witht he badab black works well if you want a little rust worked in. also, don't use dots as your chips, make small organic shapes.

For instance

r= red
b=badab black
t= tin bitz
