Looking to make a really nice space marine force, I just cant choose which to go with.

I dont care about rules etc, this is a choice on which will look the best painted up.

So any ideas, needs to look really nice with nice bases.

thanks loads :)

Ok here\'s a negative suggestion, stay clear of Imperial fists.
Yellow is a swine to make look really good.

Ultramarines, Dark Angels (due for a revamp very soon), Blood Angels, Black Templars, Salamanders, Space Wolves, take your pick.

How about working out what colour you find the easiest to work with and select from there.

If you don\'t care about the rules, then why not come up with a color scheme you like and make up your own chapter?

Aren\'t they Legion of the Damned now?

My advice: If you are the sort of person who collects then dumps armies then skip the roll-your-own chapter. A well known chapter will ebay better, well painted or not. Nobody\'s gonna buy a fully painted \"Emperor\'s Codpieces\" army. Okay, maybe someone would. I dunno.

I paint Blood Ravens.... I don\'t even play 40k. I just liked Dawn of War.

You could also try a pre-heresy Space Marine chapter. Some of the paintjobs at that link are ... questionable, but they\'ll give you the idea. This would give you a chance to use a custom chapter while staying tournament legal. Also you\'d have an uncommon marine force.

I\'ve been tempted to start on a pre-heresy Thousand Sons, but I really don\'t have time right now. I have a Dark Angels force which I have no interest in, so if I was to redo my marines it\'d be as pre-heresy Thousand Sons.

Open to some debate, many people do believe that GW intended FH to now be LotD, but it has only been hinted at in a few obscure fluff pieces and never overtly stated. I picked them because I actually like their yellow power armor and found the mushroom cloud symbol relativly easy to paint over and over though the flame does get a bit repetative.

Actually it is very clearly stated in the original LoTD article in WD195 that they were the firehawks, it only became obscure in later fluff.

I love LoTD, need to finish the little 1000pt army I\'m doing.

How about the Mentor Legion, nice and easy to paint just white and green. Why not the Mantis Warriors or the Sons of Medusa or the Executioners, Howling Griffins look pretty neat too. The Legion of the Damned are (were) the Fire Hawks, no doubt about it, and check out WD #105 I think they feature in that one or was it earlier still, its so long ago I cant remember.

As for the question about making yellow easier... :/

Yellow (At least, GW yellow!) tends to be watery and streaky...

So the best way to use it is to have the target area undercoated cleanly and smoothly in a light colour...

Depending on the tone etc you want:

Whites, light greys, ivory/bone are good bases.

Of course, you may still need to use several coats of the yellow before it starts to look smooth and streak-free (This will be more noticable against clean white - so I tend to undercoat with Bleached bone)

@ ANYONE WITH MORE YELLOW EXPERIENCE - PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I HAVE MIS-STATED ANYTHING HERE :p

Well color-wise the crimson fists are my favorites, the red + dark blue looks wicked. I play ultramarines though, they´re blue and some red as well and they´re better defined background-wise so I chose them.
Yellow is the worst color to paint - even white is easier.

white is bumb to paint but after doing 200+ blacktemplar shoulder pads you semm to get good at it

with the whole yellow ting i only dun it 1 on a tyranid , i drybrushed it over a white undercoatm, covered it with watered down flesh wash and it look amazing but i never tried in on a marine in case of it going wrong
