Hi, i just got a new camera for my 15birthday, and so i took a few pictures of the marine i was working on at the time. Please tell me what you think and how i can improve my painting (or photography for that matter).

alright,
Its kind of funny in real life it looks pretty good, however in these pictures all the defects jump you at you.

I keep looking but I don\'t see these defects you keep mentioning, it looks excellent from my PoV. Now seriously, if anyones looking at it that close, you need to tell them to stop fogging the glass case that it should be placed in.

To me, the highlights are too white. I would start with the flesh tone you have and instead of highlighting I would work the shadows.

if you really want to go crazy, you could paint the lines separating his teeth.

There appears to be a scuff on his chin that could be covered carefully, and maybe add some pink or gray (your choice) to the scar that runs from the gash in his forehead, across his eye and down his cheek bone.

Looks good to me, considering how close the pic is from I think it\'ll look great with a pic taken from a regular distance :D
If you want to have a look in the article section cyril has an article about painting that SM head, and his picture are pretty much as close up as yours.

Heres a one I did pretty much the same.
The thin washes applied as stuble adds a lot of character.
