Soul Reaper\'s Chaos Space Marines....

Hey guys, well i\'ve finally decided to concentrate on a Chaos army for 40k. This is my own chapter, called the Prophets of Shan\'dai. I\'ve been fooling about with an army painter on Bolter and Chainsword and this is what i\'ve came up with so far. Going to start on them this afternoon, so far i have a Chaos Terminator Lord, a Sorceror and a unit of Chaos marines, which i\'m going to use as my Chosen. I also have an old Space Marine Rhino and an old Hellcannon from WHFB so i\'m going to try and convert the rhino using the Hellcannon. This is my first \"serious\" project so i\'m going to try adding some Green Stuff details to my guys, such as scraps of leather wrapper around their armour plates, and stretched faces removed from their enemies on their shoulder pads. I\'ll try and get more pics added as soon as i get some work done. Any comments n such would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like an interesting project with some good idears. Not much else one can say at this point. I have never liked that much purple on poweramour, but that\'s personal preference, and a lot of people think that it look good so go for it.

First Update

Ok, i\'ve not had much chance to get a lot done today, but i decided to try and work on the pink colour on a test model. I\'m not the best of painters and i don\'t have the first clue how to blend colours or anything like that. It\'s basically a basecoat of GW Foundation Astronomican Grey, followed by a watered down basecoat of Warlock Purple, then Tentacle Pink, then Tentacle Pink mixed with Space Wolves Grey. I was trying to get a more pastel type of pink. Sorry for the bad pictures, i don\'t have a good setup for taking photo\'s of my models. C&C Welcomed.

It looks good and chaotic. I\'m in the same boat as Manus, I personally am not a fan of the pink, purple, mauve sort of range but what can you do? There aren\'t any colours that everyone will like.

But anyway, I\'d suggest thinking about switching the forearms to blue and the hands to purple OR switching the colours between the shins and boots. I find it sort of distracting, the arms not matching the legs. Maybe I\'ll be the only one.

G\'luck with the project,
Cheers,
RB

Hey, no fair updating while I was typing a response!

That pink will deffinately stand out on the tabletop once the whole model is sporting its bright pastel pink uniform.

So, i\'ve been playing around with trying to get a decent pink colour that i like, and decided to give the GW website formula a go. But now i can\'t decide between the one i already have (see above pics) or this new one. Any advice, or C&C would be greatly appreciated!

im not really a fan of the pinks either, just a tip though since u mentioned u have no xp blending or highlighting, perhaps go with a darker pink or purple and then highlight with the color uve came up with

@ninja7army, i\'ll give that a shot, although i\'m still thinking about going and getting a painting lesson from my local GW!

@Necroghast, here\'s the link for the page for it, you can do Space Marines, Terminators, Chaos Marines or Tau Fire Warriors: It\'s a really handy tool, and slightly better than the GW one. Let me know if the link doesn\'t work.

The good news is, \"stretched faces\" are fun and easy to make with GS. It\'s kind of hard to see, but on this mini I did exactly that, and with my terrible sculpting it still turned out looking good :)

Finally some Updates...

Well since the last time i posted i\'ve been busy with real life stuff, but i\'ve managed to get some work done on my army in the last few days. I\'ve bought a new unit, Chaos Terminators, and have resprayed my old models with white, so i can try and make painting the pink a bit easier. I\'ve applied the pink that i like to the top half of my Chosen Unit\'s Aspiring Champion, so just the head, shoulderpads, arms and torso. Hasn\'t really came out as well as i had hoped but i don\'t know how to tidy it up. Anyhoo here\'s some pics, and C&C welcomed as always.

Oh, and the stray hairs have since been removed!

Maybe you should try just a simple and very thin white line. Or you could add a lighter pink then the white extreme highlight

@Manus thanks for the reply mate, i\'ll try the thin line of white paint....just to show off my noobness it goes on the edge of all armour plates is that right? (i feel like a right twit for asking that...)

Advice Needed on Armour Trim

Ok, so i\'ve finally picked the pink colour, but the problem i have now is i\'m not sure which armour trim looks best. This one...

DSCF0190_edited.jpg

Just needs the pink to be highlighted and a bit of a highlight on the blue, or this one...

DSCF0191_edited.jpg

This one needs a highlight on the gold and the pink to be darkened. What do you guys think looks better, the first pic or the second?

Try mixing a near-complimetnary color with the base color (in this case pink) and using that as a shade. Maske sure you keep it thin so it doesnt overpower the pink.
