Sony suggestions

My employer has started a program to allow us to buy Sony products at a discount. We can also finance purchases. So... what kind of recommendations do you guys have for a Sony camera for miniature photograpy? No, I haven\'t noted a specific price range. I would like to see what you guys suggest.

Mainly, I\'d like something that will take really good pictures of miniatures. I have a couple of cameras already, so I\'m not so concerned about \"pictures of the family\" type camera. I\'ve got that part of it covered.

Thanks in advance for your input.

So if you\'re looking for a camera to take pictures of miniatures, the most important thing is the macro setting. In particular you want to get the camera with the shortest focal distance... my Nikon goes down to 2cm, I don\'t know what any of the Sony cameras do. That is the main thing, the other thing to remember is if you\'re just going to post pics to the web, a 2 megapixel camera is all you need, you don\'t have to spend the extra cash for a 4, 5 or higher camera. The 2MP is plenty, as you\'ll almost certainly have to downsize the picture anyways. You\'ll also probably want to buy more memory as most camera come with a pathetic amount of memory (holding like 12 pictures or something). Anyways, hope this helps!

I use a Sony P72 which is a 3 megapixel camera. Very nice quality and easy to use. If I was going for another Sony I\'d go for something like the P92 which is 5 megapixel and isn\'t badly priced at all (especially if you have a discount).

It doesn\'t have such a close macro but the higher pixel count makes up for it and it does take nice pics. All my recent minis have been photographed with it (including all the studio shots on the Spyglass website).

I had a Nikon 995 for a while. The Macro was closer but I didn\'t think it took shots that were anything as nice as the Sony. Plus it was heavy and big.

I\'m actually about to try out a new camera (Fuji one that\'s 6 megapixel) but if that doesn\'t work out I\'ll go for a new Sony (want those extra pixels for some print work).

Well, I use a mavica fd88. I\'ve gotten good results even with epic scale minis.

It\'s a nice little camera with multiple functions and for ease and convenience I find it superb. I think it\'s only 1.5 megapixels though. Unfortunately they don\'t make it any longer. They have moved from floppy drive (the fd) to a CD version. For my method of use (and to save landfills from the excess number of cds) you can\'t beat the floppy and the CD is too wasteful.
One big plus now though, they are cheap.
