Something neat from Forge World

Cake or Death?
After a lot of 'meh' from Forge World, I'm actually impressed by this newest figure. Is it just me, though, or is this thing HUGE?:

I absolutely don't like the wings. The rest is okay. What's up with this 'bigger is better' motto those guys at FW have over the last year? Please release something normal which I actually CAN afford.

Not bad, but the wings look absolutely shit and it looks like that is where most of the weight is (££££)

Mehh, dissapointed to be honest, only the GUO has really lived up to the standard of detailing so far, the others have all fallen a bit flat for me really, a shame, as tzeench is my favoured chaos power, so I was expecting something more. The wings are rubbish and the pose is odd and drawn out.

Not impressed :/

i dont get it either. thought the wings were very fluffy looking and the skin texture is awesome
i havent liked any of them except for the GUO and even then thought the GW one was more tempting than the FW one. this is IMHO is a league apart from what the GW is in Detail
as it should be.
also the size is astounding
scales.jpg

that shows its size compared to a FW bloodthirster
IMG_2097.jpg

and that shows how big the FW bloodthirster is compared to the GW one.
the thing is titanic in size
for the price not bad

Here's a shot I took of it on GD this year.

The wings are a wee bit flat, they can do better, but they are in no way bad nor badly detailed. Just like with almost everything new from GW these days their photos are not doing their models justice. No matter how good or bad the model is, the photo makes it look half arsed. I'm not claiming to have taken a better shot, just that I've seen it with my own eyes and that I am impressed by the model.
The wings are indeed the largest part of the model and by being so, most possibly the heaviest as well.
And on the 'bigger is better' issue, remember that the whole of GW is into this 'epic high fantasy/sci-fi battles' thingy, if it ain't large it ain't high fantasy and that piece there is supposed to the greater greater daemon.

I like the figure and if I had the cash, it would me mine.
Only thing, the wings are just too perfect, if that makes any sense?

@COG - wow, dude, I didn't realize the scale was so different. The Battle Sister gives a decent comparison, but your angle gives a lot more dimension to it.

I like the way your FW daemon is looking BTW.

@DXM: Yeah, I understand, they would benefit a lot from being a tad more ragged.. But with it being a Tzeench daemon it shouldn't be too much but I definitely agree.

It reminds me of one of those resin, hand-painted-by-a-master-craftsman statuettes you see in Argos catalogues. Maybe it's something to do with the way they've painted it, but yeah.... :sidefrown:

well i like it. can't access the store (at work) how much is it?

i think the paintjob doesn't make the best of the wings. more of a variation in colour would help

I like the Gibbering Mouther in it's hand, I'd buy that as a separate monster :) B.

D'oh! I think you're letting your D&D cred show by accident - I believe GW calls an amorphous blob with mouths a Tzeentchian "Horror."

I of course didn't make the same mistake myself. Nope. Not me.

It does kinda look like a Gibbering Mouther, doesn't it?

Yeah, wings are a massive let down on an otherwise good model. I've seen more dynamic pairs on prepainted D&D figures. For the price of Forgeworld models, you deserve better wings.

meh. i think the ultraforge vrock is a much cooler take on this concept (and much cheeper).

the pic of all the daemons really showcases the scale creep too. each one is considerably bigger than the last.
