I'd like to hear what you think on the Super Dungeon guys as you and after you paint'em up. Sounds like a fun/cute project (Yes I had thought about getting a set, they just look so cute \'o'/ ) So please add to your Wip when you get around to painting, if you please.

i've got to agree with your reviews so far on the soda pop stuff which is a shame as the range is spectacular but somewhat dissapointing in different ways mainly how awkward and fiddly assembly can be i got princess malya and mr tomn and candy and cola with candy and cola the inside of the one arm was sealed to the body (bad description i know) with a whole sheet of flash a real pain to get out and if you plan on pinning it to the base instead of using the tab like me it'll mean reshaping the belly of the little fox dude the weapon arm and leg slot together easy enough but the whole piece needed a fair bit of cleaning of mold lines

princess malya on the other hand was cast really nicely for the most part two bits were rather evil though malya's legs were joined together with a large piece of flash around the camel toe region and the relic's weapon had lots of bits of flash inbetween the energy beams in the middle of the blade it took a fair bit of time with a pin sorting that out other than that it's um 20 odd pieces altogether with 8 parts being fins well 6 are and will be easy to spot where they go from the box art the other two took a lot of time working out that they need to be slotted into the chest cavity of the relic underneath the "head" like a lower jaw section

i've yet to get much past this at the moment as i'm still busy on another project and waiting on a pinning refill to come through before i start assembling it

though i've got to say you're article is very helpful though after reading it it's making me think twice about the super dungeon explore range if their as small as dwarves i was contemplating getting them thinking they'd be a fun thing to play with but i was kinda hoping they'd be a bit bigger

i suppose it's a good thing no sites in the u.k. have stocked them yet as i probably would have ordered them without knowing how small they were...i'll be thinking long and hard about whether to get them while i'm cursing putting the giant robot together

in fairness their casts from what i've seen are pretty good albeit far from newbie friendly i've spoken to a few people about the minis and they seem to feel the same

it does seem more intentional that they're difficult than by chance i heard about ayu beat being 6 pieces when it's just a girl smashing a guitar into a broken amp i know there's stuff about casting and under bites and over bites that can be given as some excuse and i'm sure with plenty of time and skill they can look awesome

it just doesn't lend to the ip as most of the ones who are uber-skilled and can assemble these and paint them pristinely aren't interested in them it's the newer generations to table top gaming...those who either gave up when the 16-bit consoles came out or those that never started which get's them shelling out on the stuff and then looking at it and realising they can't do anything with it

it's possible the super dungeon explore stuff may have had some problems with the rush to get them up for sale by their twelve days of christmas campaign as their site doesn't have pics of greens or painted or unpainted versions of the minis either just cgi mock-ups and any pictures of painted minis or otherwise from this range on the net are of the promo ones available at gencon which were of a larger size

I know i'm bashing them quite a lot but like you i love the style and initial ideas i think it's great to see a quality anime/manga style creep in to a field where it should have really been for years (seeing as this style has ruled the computer world of rpgs and similar for atleast 20 years now) but they need a GW approach rather than trying to convert the perverted and make their kits entry level stuff so they can hook new clients and give the already converted like me something i can handle building and painting with my butter fingers

Mayla... 20 odd pieces altogether
true, had to ask them for a little help/guide when I assembled it.

making me think twice about the super dungeon explore range if their as small as dwarves
they are a little bigger, not much, but the GW dwarves I remember are definitely smaller.

I didnt even know they were metal, I thought they were resin models to be honest.
well on the store it's stated as pewter models.

The simple shapes of the figure just seem lost in gloopy metal mould, in some cases you cant even see the whole rim of the eye.
sadly for SDE it's true, was really hard to see and paint any details. Some parts could almost be painted as freehand as you can't see if something is there or not.
If someone from sodapop reads this, please make the next figures with crisper details or they are really hard to paint.
Ohh and I didn't have this problem with the relic-knight line.

the painted versions are still not there, as for green, there won't be any. The CGI is the base for the 3d printing/prototyping afaik.
That could also explain why are the details so blurred.

...and hopefully I can take pictures of the sde minis I painted. They are not that great (especially after seeing the red mage painted for Xmas) but usable.

MAXXxxx don't feel bad i've seen that christmasy mage it was one of the promo ones from Gencon and was also painted by a rather talented lady with a golden demon under her belt and i was still hoping for a bit bigger than "just a bit bigger than GW dwarves" if they were the same height as a the relic knight figures with the same chibi/SD dimensions it would have been pretty cool but that's just my wishful thinking maybe if there's interest they'll up the scale and release the SDE line as a boxed game in plastic later down the line (soda pop if you're reading this please do this you know it's a good idea)

but still with all the bashing i feel the need to say i love the soda pop stuff it's just a real bitch to put together and paint

the original "promo" models were 20% bigger and imho much better. the only problem i had was that a few of the hero faces had the same issue, features blending in, i did however send an email to them, and they replaced it in about 3 weeks. so yeah, some issues, but if they switched to resin, i think that issue would be resolved immediately.

SDE_1.jpg

well they turned out to be like that. I'm happy how the heads and eyes turned out, not so much for the bodies.
For the archer I took the hair ornament as hair too, so the same color and all.

weird, altough they were highlighted and shaded it can't be seen on the pic.

When I get a bit more work done Im going to start a progress review, where I comment while I work on them to give more of an understanding to the whole thing.

Ill also have photos comparing sizes to GW models for everyone.

cool i think i really need a scale perspective for these guys coz seeing the painted pics here and in the CMON store i'm being more tempted by them but if the size is ridiculously small and unworkable i may need to stop looking at all the pretty pictures before i buy them and end up with something i'll never paint

that sort of helps i'm guessing that demonkin rogue body is going to be a pain but they aren't looking too bad though considering their size again so many pieces
