Soda gourmands

evil tendencies

Cake or Death?
So I\'m sitting here drinking a Weinhard\'s gourmet soda (the orange cream kind that tastes like a half and half bar).

Anyone here into fancy sodas and want to share their favorite?

I love Ginger Beers. Not real spicey ones, just nice smooth ones. Can see the bottle in my head but can\'t recall the name.

Coke Zero , its the first 0 sugar drink i\'ve actually liked the taste of, i hate the test of Diet Coke, but Coke Zero, and the other Zero\'s you cant tell the difference. Apart from the lack of the 100 calories ;)

Americans have it easy though, you guys have so many different soda\'s its mind blowing.

However, one thing you really really suck at is crisps, both times i was in the states (NY and Chicago) it was impossible to find decent crisps (chips to you i think), plenty of soda + candy, but a serious lack of decent crisps.

I also really like the Weinhard\'s orange cream. Good stuff :)

There\'s a small soda shop a way\'s away that I used to go to. I haven\'t been there in a while but they have sodas from all around the world.

I am a huge fan of root beer. I love just about all kinds.

My favorite soda? Gale\'s Root Beer. If I recall correctly the bottle said it\'s from a restaurant chain in Illinois. There\'s spices in there that I\'ve never tasted before in other root beers. Cinnamon in particular. Who would have thought? :D But at $1.25 a bottle I can\'t afford to drink it very often.

I love A&W rootbeer. We can get the \"home brewed\" stuff around here in the bottles. I love that stuff.

Only really \'gourmet\' type of Soda, or Pop as we call it, that you find here is Jones. http://www.jonessoda.com/

Long past there was The Pop Shoppe, that had some great flavours and was dirt cheap if you bothered to return the glass bottles.

I can tell the difference too. But I gotta say, I\'m a Pepsi guy. Coke assaults my senses. Oddly enough, though, I like diet coke.

Prefer pepsi over coke, 100% if we are talking diet stuff. Love the Stewart\'s root beer and orange soda from cracker barrel.

If you\'re talking DIET soda (something I\'ve been exploring lately) the only thing I\'ve found that I can stomache so far is diet Dr Pepper. Everything else tastes metalic. Yuk!

homemade fresh lime soda. Recipe brought back from India by my hubby.

1) make a simple syrup (dissolve sugar in hot water to supersaturate. less water better in my opinion.) For a 12 ounce glass, I use about 1 tbs of sugar, just enough water to cover. Put in microwave and nuke until sugar mostly dissolved
2) put syrup in bottom of glass
3) pack glass with ice, and fill almost all the way with soda water or tonic. I like the slight bitterness of the tonic better
4) add juice of 1 lime and stir slightly

I know I didn\'t give many measurements...I don\'t use them in cooking much. You can of course alter the order in which you put the ingredients. The above results in a soda which is sweeter as you drink it down, which I like.

@Gilvan Blight: The Pop Shoppe is back, and re-growing. The corner store right up the street from me carries their orange, root beer, and cream soda.

For my own \'special\' favourite, I have to say Stewart\'s Cream Soda tops my \'once a week treat\' list. Dad\'s is a close second.

On gaming night, I get two big cans of Jolt Cola.

No better root beer than A&W. Reeds extra spicy ginger brew, ice cold is real good.

I began drinking diet soda long time ago (although it\'s done NOTHING for me!!)

But anyhow, I now cannot drink a regular soda of any kind...it\'s like drinking syrup! Much too sweet.

But I do remember the Pop Shoppe and the blue Cream Soda they had....HMMMM liquid gold there!!

Blue Jolt is also a favorite of mine. It tastes like a blue-raspberry ICEE.

Although it is a little tough to find around here. Some Walgreens stores carry them. They\'ve also got a yellow passion fruit flavor that\'s pretty good.

Gotta say, I\'m not fond of sodas, but I still enjoy the taste of some Schweppes Cream Soda every now and then.

I used to drink an awful lot of Diet Coke. Don\'t do that anymore, guess I\'ve literally drunk my fill.

That said, now I like the Japanese sodas better. Current favourite is Calpis soda. Yum!
