Ok I have NO CLUE what confrontation is all about! I have played Warhammer in every incarnation for 12ish years I can give you the background info on Aekold Helbrass if you want it BUT what the hell is the background for Confrontation????

Ok so I have the rules scattered beside me at the moment and a small legion of Griffin things is winging its way to me in the post but I have no idea what the background and fluff to the confrontation universe is all about so could someone please gimme a brief (or long I don\'t mind!) rundown of backgrounds and the stories behind why everyone is fighting, the different races etc etc... Anything you wanna tell me!

Consider this the \"I\'m a stupid confrontation newb\" thread and explain everything nice and slowly!

Thanks:D

Hmmmm....

Alex - is this sudden spending frenzy in some way meant to help you forget your recent trip to NY?! Yay to retail therapy :D

I\'m about to place a big order too and like you I haven\'t ventured into playing Confrontation, although it does look appealing. I have so many of those damn gorgeous french figures I guess it would be rude not to play......

You, Mr Finn and myself will have to get together for a game sometime :D

I don\'t know man, I have gather bits and pieces of data. Nothing solid. Ragnarok is suposed to have a US release in a moth or 2 I hear. AND that is what you want as I am looking for the same thing.

The only thing I can say that I DO know is that the warriors of the DAWN(DIRZ) stolen their armor design from the gryphs and then.. modified it.:D

If you understand German or want to go through the tedious task of plucking bits of usable information from a translation program, http://www.planetconfrontation.de/ offers some nice backgrounds on all the armies. And Smoth, the have a similar design because the Alchemists were part of the Gryphons once ;)

The Gryphons of Akkylania

In the empire of the Gryphons there is no doubt. The Imperators word is law, and everyone who dares to oppose this will soon be visited by the omnipresent Inquisition. The Imperator\'s harsh rule has made the Gryphons a fanatic people that would die for their master without wasting a thought on that.
The Element of Fire holds a special fascination for the Accylanians. It\'s destructive and purging power mirrors the poeples\' lifes and reminds of the Inquisition, which has burned (on the pyre) many citizens who lost their faith in the Imperator.
The Inquisition plays a big role in holding together the empire of the Gryphons. They lead the lost sheep back on the Emperor\'s way. Their methods often include torturers and the pyre, but their success is - to them - reason enough to carry on. As the great Inquisitor Kelgar once wrote: \"You can\'t work for the status of an Inquisitor if you have not been born an Inquisitor.\"
The Inquisitors are a special caste and represent the eyes and ears of the empire. Nobody knows how many exactly exist, and many live as spies among the ordinary people.
To deal with problems in a quick and efficient manner, the Inquisition has a unit of elite warriors that can be deployed at any time: The Templars of the Inquisition. Those worthy warriors carry out any order of the Inquisition without ever asking annoying questions.
After a very bad incident that lead to the Alchimists of Dirz fleeing the empire of the Gryphons, the Inquisition decided to create another branch among them, taking care only of the magicians of the empire. So the Hunters of Darkness were born who, under the leadership of the Great Exorcist, investigated any paranormal danger for the empire.

I hope it is understandable; I always tried to keep true to the original without creating sentences that are too awkward to read ;)

I must hold my hand up here; for a really long time I thought you were from either Australia or New Zealand. And knowing how natives of either of the two countries hate to get mistaken for the other, was not going to ask.

How wrong was I. ;)

Aaaarrrggghhh!

Those Hod templar figures are so incredibly cool! Why, oh why do they have to be just another Empire clone? Is there really that limited a number of themes for this kind of thing? Bleah!:(

I guess it\'ll save me some money... *le sigh*

@T_Haye and Dragonsreach, at least they know that England exists....

As for the Templars, I think that they are not a clone of the epmire, at least not too much. I mean of course they are both human, but that is where it ends for me.

Not to mention...

a lot of these Inquisition ideas are based on the actual Inquisitions and Witch hunts of the past. GW is popular. Of course it\'s going to seem like everyone is following their lead.
It\'s the same with Vampires in games. Vampires are tormented romantics, or psychotic slaughter machines.
Werewolves are the earthy naturalist.
I thought the movie 28 days later would give a new twist on the zombie legend. But it came up lacking. Everyone always got away. Then again, I saw it in Korea. So it could have been heavily edited. there is a Japanese movie being Americanised called Ju-on. The origional version was supposedly so scary people had heart attacks in the theaters. In Korea it wasn\'t as bad because they took out all of the good parts.lol Some of it didn\'t make sense.:(
