Slaanesh Rhino - WIP

Hi all,

It\'s not often I put up WIP pics, but I was reasonably happy with how this was turning out and wanted to share :)
Still lots to do, like the base, but it should give people an idea what the final product will look like.
Oh, and before anyone asks, the freehand on the face took about 2-3 hours and was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
comments and criticisms welcome :)

The freehand is fantastic, I\'d like to see the colour theme for the face used on the sides with some freehand there as well. I think it would bring the whole thing together. There again what do I know, great work I wish I could freehand like that:D

well it looks impressive but I\'d really like to see a top view rather than such an acute angle of the freehand. It\'s really hard to judge the quality of the freehand from this pic.

yeas, I think you either love or hate the pink, but to me - it epitomizes Slaanesh...

Orb, yes, the angle of the photo is quite deliberate. I was thinking of entering it in Oz GD this year, but haven\'t made up my mind yet. I didn\'t want too many people getting *too* good a look beforehand, and want to post some full finished photos when it is complete.

That pink is not just beautiful, it is amazing! I really like the texture you managed to get in there.

I would like to know what technique you used for copying the freehand on to the rhino and then painting it.

As an EC painter I give this two thumbs up.

Looking sweet the pink is cool but I feel it is needing a little breaking up to tie the whole thing together...
Maybe some of that style freehand on the sides or some kind of Gigeresque style piping looking like it is burrowing through flesh.
Great work though .

thanks guys, i am taking all comments on board, as I wouldn\'t mind doing another one at some stage and seeing how I can improve on the next one.
perhaps I will choose another colour as the base, like midnight blue or black.
l won\'t know whether I will enter it this year or not as I have another project I am working on and I think it might turn out better than this, so I\'ll make my mind up with a week or two to spare.
demonherald, thanks for the suggestions :) if you look closely, you\'ll see there is some of that style freehand in the trackguards on the front and rear of the sides, maybe the photo doesn\'t make it stand out too well.
misterjustin - the technique for the face was quite simple. I started off thinning down some black and painting over the entire area that the face was to be done on then slowly started adding layers of paint (black mixed with rotting flesh) until there was only pure rotting flesh being painted on. All of the sinews/cables etc were \'streaked\' on adding interest to the detail of the face and giving it a texture that the pic doesn\'t show (yet) and I tried to use the Giger pic as a reference all the time as I have his book (well one of them anyway).
I chose to paint the eyes in black rather than the traditional style (like Giger used) as I thought it looked far more menacing and unnatural looking.
I will definately post some better pics with a collage of smaller ones showing different angles at some stage down the track when I have finished it.

Love the freehand. Giger all the way! I think the pink armor kind of lets the model down however. It doesn\'t seem to have any depth (of course that could be the picture) I would suggest putting a pattern in the pink simular to what you did on the black sideplates. I think that would tie the whole thing together. Either way great job. Love the face!

heheheh!

I had to laugh - I had a look today after a week and noticed my rhino has caused some ripples being pink (and a few 1\'s lol ) ! Am I wrong in thinking that pink is a good colour for Slaanesh ???
