Hi guys, been a while since I was last here, how's it going?
Reason I've not been around (not that anyone would remember me, of course, hah!) is because I lost interest in painting for a good long while. Half of it I blame on my silly, broken brain (I've been unable to undertake any kind of creative hobby / activity due to a more-nasty-than-usual bout of depression *tsk*), the other half is that I've felt pretty uninspired by the minis I had waiting around to be painted.
I used to paint 40k a lot, indeed it makes up the bulk of my collection, but I've not touched it in years.
HOWEVER...
I have been playing an old 90's pen & paper RPG every Tuesday evening with my friends for over six years called SLA Industries. I don't know if anyone here played it back in the day or indeed continues to do so, but I love the game and the world it is set in.
Dave Allsop, the man who created it, went on to illustrate for Wizards of the Coast etc, doing art for Magic the Gathering etc and has also I believe done some GW-related art. He's kept himself busy and honed his talents over the years, but has come back full circle and is now concentrating on SLA Industries again.

A company called Daruma Productions has picked up the SLA Industries franchise, and has been working on releasing a spin-off tabletop skirmish game (complete with miniatures, YAY!!!) called Cannibal Sector 1 (CS:1 as we like to shorten it to).

I am getting to see all these characters who previously lived in my imagination (and the pages of the SLA rulebook) come to life, and it's AWESOME!
Recently, Daruma did a Kickstarter campaign to fund the culmination of their hard work and getting the rules into print, they were looking at a £5000 target and in the end got over £46'000 in pledges! This meant they could also fund a whole bunch of new miniatures to be used in the game.

A couple of weeks ago I received my first order of miniatures from Daruma, and I have to say, I'm really enjoying the sculpts. The proportions are much more realistic, as opposed to 40k's "teh awesomezzz!" bulky power-suited blokes.

So I've picked up the brush again, and I don't know if I've been soaking up technique tips and information subconsciously since I last downed tools, but I swear my painting is already much better than it used to be!
I keep looking here on CMON for inspiration and I come away always wanting to try out something new.
Here's hoping this next stretch of painting minis is longer than the last one, I have more models from the Kickstarter on the way next year and I'd love to be able to complete them all!
Give the game and the minis a look, there's some really nice stuff to paint already available and more being released soon!
(P.S, I don't work for Daruma, I'm just an overly-enthusiastic SLA Industries fanboy! )
