Skaven Blood Bowl team WIP

Hi all,

I\'ve actually started to paint something, so thought I\'d get some feedback whilst I\'m doing it.

I\'ve got most of the team undercoated (ran out of black spray) and have concentrated on these two models so far.

It seems this paint scheme is quite popular as I found a couple on here done the same way after I\'d got the base coats on, but I\'m going to try and give the different players e.g blitzers/throwers a different fur colour. I think it will look good, plus also help when playing the game, lol.

Fur colours: White for Throwers, Grey for Storm Vermin, Black for Gutter Runners and Brown for Linemen. Not sure what to do the fur on the Rat Ogre yet, I\'m thinking brown, so he\'s evolved/mutated from a normal lineman. I was also thinking about doing different skin tones, doing the throwers dawrf/elf flesh to make them look more albino, was thinking of bronzed flesh on the blitzers and vomit brown for linemen, any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I still need to paint the bases, do the skin and add some highlights, but let me know what you think so far.

p.s there\'s a few spots that need sorting on the thrower, the red from the eye has gone over onto the eye lid and the black on the shoulder needs painting in, but it is an WIP :)

Hi Gapow, those photos are a lot better, I can see the red in the eyes now! The team looks neat, it\'ll be nice to see them completed. Are their tails going to be the same colour as the flesh ? B.

Um that was the idea, are the tails supposed to be a different colour? I\'ve only ever painted Space Marines..................badly

Hi Gapow, there aren\'t any rules, paint as you wish! I did a set of Skaven years ago that had caucasian flesh colours but a Tittilating pink tail! Bit too bright. More recently I started one (unfinished of course, see my BPI WIP thread) where I was going for a greenish tint to the flesh with a redder, meatier look for the tail to try & give the impression that it was a 5th limb that it could smack you with rather than a feathery balancing appendage. Try a Google image search for rat/rodent for some reference if you want to see some options (or a Gallery search for Skaven). B.

I think I\'ll keep them the same colour as the skin (just to make it easy on myself) but after looking at some google images, the tails do appear to get darker towards the tip, so might try and incorperate that.

I did a little shading on the reds with devlan mud, but its not showing through, another coat/s maybe needed.

I need to get the sand covered in scorched brown before the drybrushing can begin. I want to get this out the way before I paint the feet as I know I\'ll be messy and get it all over the place :)

Still not sure what colour to to the rim on the base, I like the goblin green (bit retro)as it blends in nicely with the game board, but might leave them black.

Sorry didnt see this one, I\'d started writing a reply to BPI, then had to hide screen from my boss haha.

I was thinking that when I started painting them, plus they clash with the red armour what colour should I do them? brown like the spike on the blitzers shoulder?

Hi Gapow, painting the claws like the spike would be the trad approach. The dark base helps define against the toes then you can bring them up to off-white to give the impression that they\'re sharper than the mini casting process can cope with.

For the base rims, I was going to say black, at least for any Gallery images but then remembered that they\'re Blood bowl figures so the green is more appropriate than normal. I think I\'d still be tempted to do them black for taking pretty pictures, then green for play, as well as slapping on a thick coat of varnish lol Many BB figures make use of the pitches white lines on some of the bases, have you considered that? Are you playing on the cardboard \"grass\" board or the \"granite\" polystyrene one? Also team number on the rim for neat freehand practice :)

Not that I play Blood Bowl mind! lol

I believe it would work painting them like the shoulderspikes, at least use some more \"earthly\" hues. i personally would paint them with a basecoat of a brow-yellow colour and then highligt them white.

I tried Tau ochre on the nails and I\'m not too sure on it. The nails look too light especially on the white thrower, think they need to be a darker colour, I\'ll try getting some pics up after I\'ve given them a highlight.

Think I might try my new favourite colour of Charadon Granite, don\'t want straight black as it\'ll just look like emo nail polish, lol.

i believe i used gw\'s desert yellow when i painted toenails, looks fairly ok. i can recommend to tryout a thin wash of scaly green (that\'s easily my fav colour, can\'t live without it ;) ) on the nails, that make them look abit more shabby.

Scaly green is one of the few colours I don\'t own yet, think there\'s only about 5 in the whole GW range I don\'t have, lol.

Tau Ocre is a bit darker than desert yellow but it still looks to light. It looks really good on your Rat Ogre (Which is frickin\' awesome by the way) as you\'ve got a darker colour scheme and the nails stand out, but as I\'ve got white fur, light skin and bright tabbards it looks a bit washed out. I\'ll do a quick photoshop to see what you think of both colours (the brown/yellow and the darker ones)

no scaly green!? how do you sleep at night?:D well i think i owned that colour for years until i figured out why they even bother to produce it but now im really hooked. works amazingly good when you want to make things look old and disintigrated.

luckily i can sneak out to our laboratory when i want some photoshopping privacy haha

seeing this pictures (currently using a crappy laptop) i would say I prefer the darker nails (well isn\'t this an interesting subject to discuss, really ;) ) but heck im not that sure either hehe

now, off you go and purchase some scaly green godd*mnit! ;)

@BPI - Really sorry, I totally missed your last post. I think I\'ll go for the goblin green bases as they are gaming mini\'s and we are currently playing on the cardboard pitch, but think one of us will eventually make a nice 3D pitch for us to play on, there\'s a really cool article about making one in a case so think we\'re going to try that.

I\'v sanded the bases, base coated with scorched brown then highlighted with cathalan and graveyeard earth. I\'m going to add some of the white lines onto some of the models, but not all of them as there aren\'t that many lines on the pitch to be honest, lol. Then add some static grass to finish off.

I\'ve done the capes in Charadon Granite as my mate explained that stealth camo is never black, but dark grey as the shadows are never truely black. I think that it needs dulling down a bit though maybe with some badab black washes, then re-highlight the tops of the ridges in granite
