SENMM> Sky..Sea...NMM can it be done?

Ok I love SENMM. But the army Im currently doing is a lake themed bret army so instead of earth bases I have lake bases. I know the title says sea but I thought it was catchier:)

My question is can it be done. SENMM has good contrast between the brown and blue but a lake is not quite so.

When I started this project I wasnt thinking along the lines of SENMM so I did my lake in a blue color. I could have used a green color which would help alleviate this problem.

So my question is can it be done with a blue lake so others know they are looking at reflections not a painted design.

Or do I need to go and change to a green lake.

Some other peices to this puzzle are the knights that are in the same area. Should they be added to the reflection or would that get too confusing.

I can also add a theoretical shoreline with or without a treeline. Suggestions?

daunting...

Trying to keep track of all those reflections and colors could be pretty dizzying.

I wonder if you used another \'sky\' color (like a purplish-pink that the sky turns at twilight) if that would help.

I would think even using green as the lake colored reflection with a blue sky, it would still look rather similar, and maybe not enough contrast.

The treeline could be interesting also, but wow! that would be very hard to pull off.

I\'d say do a few models with different schemes and post em here. There are plenty of folks that can give expert opinions.

GOOD LUCK!

Two tone blue will work ok just like gold senmm.
Personally I would do the lake green cos water is only blue in holiday brochures.
Ditch the tree line and the other knights unless you are doing large scale.

And yes do some quick schemes and put them here for some opinions.Thats always helpfull.

I personally think the trick to SENMM is all in the tone rather than the color. If you\'re getting dark tones and light tones in the right places then it will look right as long as you have colors that aren\'t completely off the wall. What\'s harder about that is that the browns typically are easier to go darker than greens I think.

Anyway throw caution to the wind and try it, I want to see.

I havent tried this yet but have been thinking about it for some time. With SENMM what is basically there is a compressed and distorted landscape painting. I have been thinking of trying SENMM with clouds in the sky and buildings or trees in the bottom part and simply distorting them. Anyone else try this??

shield.jpg

OK this is my first ever attempt at NMM or SENMM. Its mildly ok but not really the affect I wanted.

It looks more like a panorama on the shield rather than a reflection.

Another thing I realized is this shield wouldnt be held perfectly verticle but at a slant so the horizon should actually angle across the shield

Also I read EVERY article about painting in the past couple of days and I have been unable to find a good walk through on how to paint gold in NMM technique.

So I did half the trim on the shield to see what I could come up with. Not very good. Anyone have any help in this regard?

Heres what I wanted to do..even if only to a lesser degree....yeah right

The shield is too dark. You have way to much brown and blue and too little lighter colours. Look at Arjay\'s work and see how he does it! The gold trim looks good colourwise, but a bit on the dark side. Go further with the highlights and use pure white for the brightest spots. Hope this is helpful! :)

Ok so make it much lighter....kinda barely any color on the metal kind of thing?

Also if anyone here thinks the gold trim is any good then its my poor picture quality distorting the crapiness of it:)

I have looked at peoples work but just looking at it I cant figure out which colors were used. It all ends up looking gold to me and without any experience on how it got that way Im fumbling. I swear Ive read every article and Ive heard snippets of theory on how it would be done and a poorly worded articles with paint colors I dont have and no pictures so have no idea whats actually going on.

So if anyone wants to save my butt with some pictured walkthrough they they know exists or want to create I would REALLY appreciate it because I really want to learn how to do NMM gold. The metallic gold Ive been using isnt as good as Id like.

Where the \"horizon\" between the blue part and the lower darker part is, usually the left and right sides curve up or down. There is another thread about chrome that should help alot. Sorry, I\'m not sure which forum it\'s in. It\'s fairly recent though.

thanks...also do you think that the horizon should be more wavy rather than sharp edges. It ended up looking like a mountain range and in general to crisp to be a reflection.

I dont think wavy is a problem just keep the divide between earth and sky sharp. Others more experienced may have more to say.

reflections.

water will reflect the light as well. l i dunno if it can be done, but it would sure be cool if your brets had water reflections on them as well.

Just today I was looking at a Greatful Dead CD cover with a painting of a chrome rose. Might want to look at that....Dont remember the CD title.
