Hello everyone, my name's Sean, and I'm an alcoholic...

Hold on, sorry, I got that wrong. My name's Sean and I've never sculpted a miniature in my life. That's better. When I say that, I don't mean to say that I've never used putty before, obviously I've filled in gaps and done some minor conversions before, but I've never scratch built a model before, and hopefully, by the end of this Sculptalong, I'll have successfully completed at least one.

But what will I be sculpting? I'm hoping to sculpt a Mad Scientist model that I'll use to lead a converted Steampunk Beasts of Chaos army for Warhammer that I'll be working on at a later date. I was originally going to convert a model to use for him, but when I saw this Sculptalong I decided to seize upon the opportunity to do something different.

Currently, I'm armed only with some Procreate, some florist wire I got about 5 years ago, a GW sculpting tool and only a couple of ideas, so stay tuned over the next few days while I collect the rest of my tools and decide upon a concept before the challenge begins on Jan 1st.

Awesome! can't wait to see what you come up with Sean, it'll be interesting to see how you link him visually with the army while still keeping the 'mad scientist' theme going. Great stuff!

Dammit, I was at the shops today but forgot to go to the Art Store. I may head down the hardware store later on or tomorrow.

I'm also looking for any ideas people have. I want to make sure my mini represents a Mad Scientist which is fine, but I want to have it so that he looks like he belongs in a Warhammer battle. He will also have to be able to be used as a Beastlord model. I was thinking perhaps that he injects himself with steroids or something? Possibly a sort of mechanical suit, but I don't want to make my first ever sculpt too hard. ;) My original idea was to use him as a Doombull model and have him in a sort of Matrix revolutions style robot thingy, but I'll save that for later.

Continuing the steroid injection idea, possibly have him with a syringe on the ground as though he had just injected himself and have him mutating, sort of an Underworld style Lycan transformation?

Alternatively, and possibly more realistically, base the model off of the Doktor Mandrake sketches from Spaced, and have a bodyguard style model that represents the strength of the Beastlord, and that could be The Bear, or possibly one of the failed attempts?

Well, what do you guys think? Any alternative suggestions?

Turns out that both my local hobby shop and hardware store don't stock Clay Shapers, I'll probably have to order some online. Hopefully they'll be here before too long.

It's hard to know what will work with the GW world...maybe have a look at Fabius Bile for inspiration, I know he's 40k, but he's kind of what you're thinking about right?
